R10 Pixelation and Reboots... Bad Fan

I thought I had a bad hard drive (I thought it was making noises), put in a new one, still rebooting, still noisy. Then I read it was a bad power supply. But it was a bad cooling fan on my Weaknees Twin-breeze hard drive mount. I disconnected the power to the fan and plugged it directly into the new single hard drive. The noise finally went away and so did all my problems. Too much load on the power supply, saved myself $50 for a new one.

DirecTv Satellite angles

While not directly a Tivo question, I've found this the best source of DirecTv information in general, so here goes.

I'm contemplating retiring my Sony SAT-T60 so I can get HD. But, i've got a fairly restricted line of sight. Right now I'm operating off only one satellite (101, I think). When HD, I think I'll need 3. Finding azimuth is not too hard but I want to find azimuth and elevation required for my location to see all the "HD" satellites. I'm fairly confident I'll have to take down one tree (which needs to come down anyway), but if I have to take down more, or move my dish out to the front curb, I'll likely pass on it.

Anybody know where I can plugin in a zip code and get all the angles I need?

Thanks

I can activate each for a new $20 access card but I'm told neither will get all of Directv's HD channels. I have Directv and have the newest satellite and both a Directv DVR and HD box. I want to add a 3rd TV, hence the Tivo boxes. Will they receive and /or record all of the HD channels?

Pixelation and cables

I am having trouble with pixelation on one tuner on my Samsung Directv TiVo, but not on the other, with channels on transponders 17 and 26. (CNN, HGTV, BIO, that I've noticed).

By my own experimentation, and confirmed by service techs last Friday, the pixelation moves with the line. If I swithc the two lines going in, the problem moves to the other input.

The technicians replaced the multiswitch and all of the outside connections, but the problem, I realized, remained.

I called back and am expecting the case management tech this Friday.

Playing around with it, however, I've discovered something interesting.

I have an s-video coming out of it and into a surround receiver for the main video to the TV. But, I also have composite (rca) cables coming out of output two and into a VCR/DVD recorder for making DVD copies of program.

If I unplug the rca cables, the pixelation goes away. I tried plugging them into the video 1 output, but the pixelation still comes back.

But, if the rca cables are unplugged, no pixelation at all goes up through the s-video cables.

I don't want to not use the rca cables because I want to be able to make recordings on the VCR/DVD recorder (and because I want a feed through it when a VCR tape ends). I don't want to try disconnecting the S-Video cable because I don't want to lose the quality to the TV.

Any ideas?

Here's the situation: I left DTV in July 08 and still have the Tivo HR10-250 hd dvr (never had any problems with it). I want to give it to a current DTV subscriber (has had dvr but not tivo) who is upgrading to HD. DTV told me that the subscriber could get a card for $20 and have the proper dish installed (approx. $70) and it should work fine--tivo included.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of upgrade?

Also, the subscriber has always had the "protection plan" which DTV tells me would cover the HR10-250 that I plan to give the subscriber. Can anyone corroborate that as the truth?

Thanks for any input!

I have a slingbox classic that I used to have hooked up to my tivo series 2 and my homesecurity camera. I just switched to Directv and got a R22 receiver that is suppose to be the non-hd receiver but the installer said it can pick up HD and it does. I hooked up the new directv receiver to my slingbox but I am unable to connect to it or to my home security camera. any thoughts what I am doing wrong or if it just not will work with my slingbox classic? I would have thought that the camera would at least still work with the slingbox.

Thanks

DirecTV satellite signal problem?

I am having a problem with one of my DirecTivo (DTV) receivers. I have 6 DTV receivers, all in different rooms of my house. 5 of them do not have any pixelation or reception problems.

The 6th is in a room that is furthest from the place where the cable comes into the house from the outside. It is in my office.

My setup is that the satellite is on the roof. The two cables from the satellite come into the house, then are connected to a Terk 6X16 switch. The various DTV receivers are then connected to the coaxial cables connected to the Terk 6X16 switch.

The problem with the 6th DTV is that it is in the office room that's furthest from the Terk 6X16 switch. So what I did was run two cables to my bedroom. I connected the two cables to a Terk 5X8 switch. I then ran two more cables from the Terk 5X8 switch to the next room (thru a wall) and these two connect to DTV #6.

I've been having problems with the reception. When I try to watch certain channels, the reception "starts and stops". I first thought it was perhaps the cable jack on the DTV that was going bad so I switched cables. But that didn't help. I changed the cable to another jack on the Terk 5X8 switch but that didn't help either.

I'm wondering a couple of things:

Q1) Would using two switches - a satellite to Terk 6X16 switch to Terk 5X8 switch to the DTV receiver - cause problems?

Q2) How far can a signal from a Terk switch go without having to "repeat" the signal?

Q3) I don't have an electrical background so I'm in the dark on this but do the Terk switches boost the satellite signals that it receives?

However, when I go to the System Info screen is says the capacity is "up to 32 hours" which is what you get with a standard series 2 like my current DSR7000.
Directv with HD TIVO

Hello All,

I just switched to directv from comcast. I was using my HD tivo with my comcast S-cards. Now I want to know if I can use my Tivo HD with my new Directv HD receiver? I have not gotten the Directv HD DVR because they told me my tivo would be compatible with my directv. Is this possible? If not, can I buy the directv HD DVR off ebay and will that work (if I go thru directv to get a HD DVR it will cost me $200)? I also noticed that the comcast HD looked better than the directv HD, is it just me or is that really the case?

I live in chicago and for some reason NBC local news does not get broadcast in HD, anyone know why?

Sorry, I am a newbie and have many questions. Please help me out! Thanks

I have an original DirecTivo unit. It is the Philips DSR 6000 with a lifetime subscription. I'm thinking of canceling my DirecTV service and taking advantage of low priced six month offer from U-verse. The four-tuner, multi-room DVR sounds like it might be nice enough that I wont mind losing my Tivo interface. Hopefully, I will be able to get an HD DirecTivo unit not too long after my six month U-verse deal expires. If so, will I also be able to reactivate my old DirecTivo lifetime subscription for one of my old SD TV's?

Even if I can't get an HD DirecTivo unit, I might want to go back to DirecTV and use my old Tivo after the six months (or even sooner if U-verse sucks). Thanks.

we just purchased a tivo to have dual tuner option. i don't get it? I'm new to satellite tv, but why should i pay an add'l monthly payment just to have "tivo". i'm calling direct tv in the am. i'm baffled. why wouldn't i just take tivo back and purchase a dual tuner direct tv dvr? is it really that great that might make it worth the extra expense? any ideas here would be appreciated.

HR10-250 lock up. Any way to fix?

I turn on the TV and am "grey screened". The HR10-250 is on, but nothing works. I hard reboot, and it stays on for several hours, before going back to the vegetative state of the "grey screeen".

Any ideas on fixing? These just appear to be lock-ups, so I don't necessarily believe it is a drive issue, and it isn't a cabling nor a power supply issue, I think.

It stumps me. Thanks for help.
