I have replaced my DVD/TiVo units with HD's. I'm throwing up this post to see if anyone might be interested. I would prefer a Southern California buyer so I don't have to deal with shipping but I'm open.

One unit has no service contract but is in great working order. The remote needs to have a battery-ectomy. Since I used a universal I didn't notice a battery froze in place, but it still works and once I remove it it will/should be fine.

The other unit is also in like-new shape and has a working remote and lifetime service.

They both have original drives so they are both 80 HR.

I would be including the Component and Audio cables and I have all the original accessories once I gather them from the cabling box.

I'm not sure about pricing though, I should probably check ebay or maybe someone might be able to offer up a fair pricing range.

If anyone is interested drop me a line at maxoc.home@gmail.com.

What is my RS-TX20 recording?

I am using my Toshiba RS-TX20 with the TiVo basic service. I have very few manual recordings set. We mainly just use it in the bedroom for timeshifting live TV.

I've noticed several times that the red recording LED on the front is on at strange times. I don't have any idea when it comes on, but I know it's on around 3:45am and past 4am. I don't have any recordings set that early in the morning. I have checked the Now Playing List but nothing is on there for that time. With TiVo Basic, there are no Suggestions so it can't be that. Usually I cannot turn the TV on to see what is going on because it will wake up the wife. I was able to check this morning though and there was no indication that it was recording anything at all.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on? Why is it indicating a recording on the front display?

Hi,

I have a few other TiVos that I bought new (meaning they were fresh & clean :)) and just got this one from someone not using it. I was going to give it to my parents.. I was told it works fine, but is "stuck" in the downloading information mode. When I plugged it in, it started making this weird alarm-type noise, until I plugged a phone cord in. Then the noise went away, but nothing is happening. The screen says "Welcome. Powering Up..", and I can hear the fan going, but that's it.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

How to Copy Your DVDs to a blank one

This tutorial will teach you how to take a full length movie and make a nearly identical DVD copy that you can archive and play in your set top DVD player. This copy will be playable in all regions and not affected by the obnoxious copy protections of regular DVDs. The whole process should only take about 40 minutes on a faster G4.
Steps:
1.Ripping the DVD
Copy the full DVD onto your hard drive. This is what "ripping" a DVD actually refers to (not converting it into another format).
2.Find out whether you have enough hard drive space:
Select the DVD in the finder and then press: command (apple key) - i to get info about the disc. Check out the used space to see how large the disc is.
Click on the hard drive you are saving the files to and use the same technique to see how much space is available.
3.DVD transcoding
Now that you have a ripped DVD file, you need to make it fit on a single-layered DVD.
4.Burn THE DVD:
Open Disk Utility (in your Applications folder (apple-shift-u)).
Locate the Image that you made in the DVD2OneX step in the Finder.
Drag the DVD image to the sidebar of disc utility.
It should appear under a divider. Select it.
Select Images > Burn.
Insert a burnable disc.
Select Burn.
Burn at speed Max.
5.Pop the DVD into your DVD player and enjoy.

I'm constantly making DVDs of my favorite shows as they air, and am wondering if there's a good way to store them. None of the methods I've tried have ever really been ideal. (Putting them into empty DVD spools, putting them into boxes in separate stacks, one for each show, etc.)

If you regularly record and save episodes of shows, how do YOU store them?
