Question about Cable Card

Hi all -

I'm new to this forum so forgive my ignorance. Also, I apologize in advance if this question is posted in the incorrect section.

I recently purchased a TiVo Premiere series 4 and stopped by my cable company (Time Warner Manhattan) to pick up the cable card needed. I was given a CISCO STA1520 tuning box alongside the cable card. I asked the technician if I needed it and he said that some channels may not display properly or not show up at all. He said if this happened to use the box.

I really dont want another box to connect. Do you guys think i'm going to need the CISCO box, or do you think the cable card will suffice? I also asked if I needed to call CS to get the card paired up with the TiVo and he said no. The card should be programmed and ready to go when I get home and all i have to do is pop the card in.

Thanks for listening everyone.

I recently bought a tivo on ebay--a series 2 with lifetime. There was a picture of the screen showing its TSN and that it had lifetime. When I got it, I started setting up, saw that it said lifetime and called tivo while doing guided setup. It then changed to 7: never set up. The tivo people said there was NO lifetime service on this box, but at one time it did have a plan.

Any ideas? Tivo customer service was less than helpful.

Thanks.

I recently switched to FIOS from Comcast and am trying to set my TiVo Premier up. It is in the same room as the router, so I thought this should be no problem and I plugged an ethernet cable in in the same way as I had with the Comcast setup. When I go to set up the connection though, it says "Network Not Found" and "The TiVo Box has not detected a network connection." Does anyone know if there's a trick to getting the TiVo to connect to FIOS?

The router is an Actiontec MI42WR (and yes, I did search the forum before posting but it looks like most of the problems are related to wireless connections).

I have a Toshiba Series 2 SD-H400 with TiVo Basic. I have the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 cable box. I use an IR blaster to change channels. My cable provider is Cox. Yesterday TiVo froze while I was in TiVo central. No matter what button I pressed on the remote it wouldn't budge. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it was working again. But now, it no longer changes channels. The screen shows TiVo changing the channel at the top of the screen, but the cable box is not receiving the information and actually changing the channel.

I'm sure everything is plugged in the way it's supposed to because all I unplugged was the TiVo power cord and plugged it back in.

I could've sworn the "Bypass" light on the cable box was lit before and now it isn't, but maybe I'm wrong and it wasn't lit before so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. What could the problem be? Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

HD recording hours conversion to SD recording hours

[My Tivo is very old SAT-T60 and I must upgrade for reasons mentioned in other threads]:(

Many TIVO (and other DVRs) quote recording capacity for HD.

I don't care much about HD--or at least I care more about recording more hours.

I assume that I can choose to record SD to get more hours...??

Other question: What is a good conversion factor? For example, if a box says 50 hours HD, can I then (if conversion factor is 4) say that I can use that box to record 200 hours?:)

Thanks

Ok so since that last major update a couple of months back every time now when I press my pause button or stop a program and go to delete it, I get spammed with ads for woollight or staying at the hilton or some other crap I dont want to see.

Im sorry but I pay 20 bucks a month times 3 TiVo Premieres, I do not want to be pushed ads. Especially since 2 of the boxes are used by my 6 year old that clicks on the by mistake.

And you cant say well Tivo needs it to make money. I would rather them up my bill by a couple of bucks then get spammed with ads.

Ive already called customer care and they scratch their heads because they show me as opt'd out for them. I press the down arrow on the but that just temporarily hides them.

I had my boxes 8 months prior to that last big update and never had this problem. Ive searched and can not find away to do away with them.

OK this is a strange one that I haven't seen in my almost 4 years of Tivo HD use - the Nationwide race on ESPN2 last night didn't record because Tivo said that 'the channel was not authorized, I didn't pay for the event, or it was not available in my area'.

ESPN2 works fine of course, I just tuned it again with no problem. I can only surmise that somehow a PPV flag was set on the broadcast by mistake by Comcast or someone else, or somehow my Cablecard auth got messed up even though everything else recorded fine last night (Fringe and other shows). It certainly wasn't blacked out and I've never had a problem with any race recording before. Anyone else seen this? I'm on Comcast in the ATL.

Greetings everyone. I am an extreme newbie when it comes to Tivo. I just purchased a Premeire XL (my first Tivo) and am loving it. Right now I am only using it for OTA and Internet features.

I see how you can program the remote to work the volume for both the TV and an audio receiver. Can you program it to work both at the same time? And if so, how do you switch between the two.

Also, can you change the remote to an RF mode?

Thank you.
