Is there a show on the air that wants to be perceived as realistic but takes more liberties with reality? I can't decide if the writers are just stupid or they think we are. Just a few instances from last night's episode for example:

The CSI's are the first on scene - AGAIN
Without approaching the vehicle they know the woman was shot before crashing into the hydrant
They do not check the driver to see if she is dead or alive, but rather are only concerned with "protecting the crime scene"
Horatio immediately knows where the shut-off valve is for the hydrant (are there such things? I guess so, but I've never seen one) and has the appropriate tool at hand
Later in the show when the suspect is returning the car and the police respond to arrest him, is it the nearest patrol car that is first to arrive. Nope. It's - wait for it - Boa Vista and Wolfe.

I hope I'm not being picky - but these types of abnormalities are in EVERY episode. The CSI's are always first on scene, first to chase a suspect, first to apprehend him or her. They sometimes appear from nowhere. And is there anything Horation can't do or doesn't know? Other than the scientific aspects, the writers don't seem to try to get anything right.

Sorry - just needed to vent a little :)

Any more, I check my brain on the couch, and watch the show for the eye candy and the scenery. :)

The CSI team in Miami is usually in the chases lately, I don't get it either. I don't think the Las Vegas team has ever been in a chase.

Bad acting, bad writing and bad directing. Sadly, a winning ratings combination. If you think about this show, you shouldn't be watching it. Are they still putting vegitable farms and cattle ranches just outside the Miami city limits? It's only a matter of time before they get called out to solve a crime on Mars, which happens to be a 2 minute drive from their fortress of crystal solitude lab.

You'd be amazed at what you can find just outside city limits. Because of tax issues, it is a lot cheaper to have a farm/ranch than to have an empty lot, so there are actually a lot of those, right against urban areas.

Within the jurisdiction of the Miami Dade police? There are just as many cattle ranches just outside Miami city limits as there are coconut groves just outside Boston.

Having lived both in Boston and in South FL, I'd have to disagree. I am not sure about jurisdiction. But definitely within Miami Dade County. But I have no idea if the CSIs are city or county officers.
