View Full Version : I have a TiVo series 2 with a lifetime subscription -- is it worth anything?

Actually, I have two. Clearing out the garage and puttin' stuff on eBay, and these two units are ready to go, but I'm not sure if they're worth selling.

I read a discussion about keeping the units on my subscription so that I can get future discounts. I have five other TiVos, though, so I don't know if that's necessary for me :).

Whaddya think?

Just look on eBay and see what other units are selling for.

No, a Series 2 with LT is not worth anything. Tell you what, I'll take it off your hands and pay you the shipping.....

They are worth upwards of $200, depending on model and HDD capacity.

If you already have TiVos on your account, that will qualify you for an Product-Lifetime MSD.

I did look on eBay -- that doesn't always tell the entire story. Thanks, classicsat, that's what I was thinking (it just brings me down that I spent so much on Lifetime service, only to have to go so cheaply as I require (read: addiction to) upgraded TiVos...)

Just sold a Series 2 Humax 590 for a friend (without the DVD) and got $97, the price is coming down as a month ago i did get almost $200 for a Series 2 with Lifetime. (On E-Bay)

Just bought an S2 with Lifetime on CL with a Tivo wireless G adapter for $40 that needed to be repaired. I watch the units on ebay all the time. Units with Tivo Basic go for $100-$200. S2's seem to go in that range too. I guess the Tivo Basic units have DVD players and burners which helps the value of them.

Though in the past, haven't people said that lifetime ones can 'lose' lifetime if they haven't connected in a long time?

It will disappear from your account and that could affect your MSD status, but the box never loses lifetime.

The box doesn't lose lifetime, but you lose the ability to have it count toward multi-service discount. I think the box has to check-in at least once every six months to avoid this.

I actually have a series 1 with lifetime that sits in a closet 11 months out of the year. I just plug it in for a few days each year right before my service renewal on my newer boxes so I can keep the multi-service pricing.
