I just went to 2 of my local comcast offices and both said they don't have any Mcards only Scards. They checked a few other local offices and none of them have Mcards. Are they in short supply or something? Now I have to call the 800 number and make an appointment for a truck roll :-(

Funny Comcast here in SJ doesn't seem to have S-cards. I gave my old S3 to a friend and Comcast couldn't get it to work for him, I think they've switched to all M cards, and S3 don't work well with them.

Comcast in Londonderry NH has repeatedly told me they do not have M cards, most recently last fall when I got my second HD Tivo.

Of course, comcast would lose $3 per month ($1.50 each) that they charge for the second card if they replaced my S cards with Ms.

Can't get a Premiere without an M card, Tivo should have thought of that one...

I'm on the Londonderry head end and have not had a problem getting m-cards.
I've only had problems getting somebody from Comcast that knows how to pair them.

Yeah but any area that stocked up on S-cards years ago probably has still not exhausted their original supply.

And/or recycled cards from people wanting to switch out 2 S-cards for 1 M-card in their THDs to reduce their monthly bill.

Ditto in Redmond, WA. Fastest and most painless thing I've ever done with a cable company; now let's see if it works when the Tivo shows up.

Rick,

I don't have enough posts to pm.

I live a couple of towns away, we're on the Londonderry system (ex- Adelphia). I have three M cards, when I call 1-800-COMCAST i tell them to make a note on the service slip that I require a M Card and a Comcast tech, not a subcontractor.

When I first got my TiVo HD's they only has S cards, I had them swap them out for M cards about two years ago.

Hmm...weird....Cox in Phoenix quoted me double the S-card montly fee for an M-card.

Guess I'll find out when I get the premiere in a couple weeks.

Does anyone know where to find the phone number for local comcast offices? I don't want to drive all over the bay area looking for one. I'm looking for the east bay. Like Hayward, Fremont, Milipitas, etc. I did call comcast and made an appointment for the Mcard install on sunday That was the earliest they had. But if I can find a local comcast office that has some I can get it sooner.

I knew my SF bay area local would be on short supply. I picked up an HDXL a month and half ago on close out price. At that time they only had one M card on reserve to someone else. The HDXL can use two S cards. The local had plenty of S cards. I took 2 and used those.

When pre orders came out, the first thing I did was go down to the local Cable center and pick up a M card. I got the only one in the local. I knew the M cards for some reason would be in short supply.

Right now that M card is sitting in front of me as I type this. I bailed on the PXL after reading the reviews. I am glad I did. I'll wait.

My brand new HDXL is running the same UI for now, is a few milliseconds slower, can run the HD search in beta, my remote is not cheapened down, I have a phone jack if my network fails, and for now have everything the new one does.

I will buy a premiere when the whole enchilada is put together.

I have an M card ready to go. I'm a sittin and a waitin.

I actually called Comcast today to have a tech bring out an M Card in Lafayette, IN. I was told by the person on the phone that they received an internal email this week saying that they only stock s-cards. I told her that I have an M-card from Comcast already so they do stock M-cards. She noted it on my account and told me that if my local office has M-cards I'll be getting one. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

don't they have to do a truck roll to install it though? according to their cablecard FAQ an installer has to come out. I called in for an appointment and have to wait till Apr 9. I'm in the bayarea (Sunnyvale).

In Redmond, WA (30 miles East of Seattle) they said to just call when the Tivo comes in and I'm ready to pair it and they'll do it over the phone.

I called up and they said i could pick it up. Comcast gave me a paper on how to install it and who to call to get it working. Maybe you should pick it up in SF?

Comcast has certain areas where they offer a cablecard self install kit. I've found from feedback from other users on here that the markets that allow this are very limited and usually major metropoitan areas where having to do a truck roll would require more staff.

So San Francisco Comcast is lazy.

Maybe if TiVo updated the Series-3 firmware so that it only required one not two Cable Cards; all of us who are paying for extra M-Card(s) could return them and solve the shortage.;)

Don't worry I am sure cable companies are placing orders for more M-Cards after TiVo's recent dealings with the FCC on the subject.:o

In Maryland, I called on Tuesday and they sheduled me for Friday. The person that I spoke with knew that the Premiere requieres an M-Card. Now let's just hope the installer also knows and how to pair them. Cutting it close. My new Premieres arrive Thursday.

Have the same problem here with BH, they claim they don't carry the cards

I know this is a slightly old thread but here goes. The folks at the Geary Comcast store in SF quoted me $8 or $8.95 a month for an M-card. So, that's obviously crap - their HDDVR fee is $10 a month. I'll pick one up there but is it easiest to call comcast to negotiate a lower monthly fee (if any) as opposed to haggling with the folks at the store?

The new premier shows up on Thursday.
