I have an unsubscribed Premiere now. I would like to do the following - can anyone tell me if this will work?

1) Transfer the service from another box currently on a monthly plan at tivo.com (I know I can do this)

2) Use the box for a few days after I get CableCARD repaired and am comfortable everything works.

3) Transfer the service back to the original box, which should again have the Premiere without service.

4) Use a giftcard to put lifetime on the Premiere.

I know I'm good until I get to #4 - will Tivo allow me to do this or will the activation via the lifetime code be rejected because the box previously had service on it? I *think* this will work (and think I did this when I got an S3, but it's been a long time).

Seems like a lot of risk/hassle. What is the motivation for this? Are you concerned the unit might not behave correctly even after getting the CableCard installed?

You get a week free service. Can't you activate with the gift card, and cancel within 30 days? At TiVo.com/activate it says:
"Product lifetime details
No refunds for cancellations, except as permitted under 30 day Money Back Guarantee. Money Back Guarantee applies only to initial activations if canceled within 30 days and DVR is returned for a full refund."

The gift card can be canceled within 30 days as well. How the credit is redeemed after I do not know.

I guess I wouldn't risk it myself.

I agree, you have 30 day money back guarantee from TiVo. If you don't like it, cancel it within first month and be done with it.

It's an old PLT service card, not a gift card.

It's really not a hassle, just don't want to put PLT on the box until I know everything works and you can't test all the function prior to putting service on the box.

But you have a 30 day return, after a 7 day trial. Wait to start the 7 days until the day you get a cablecard.

If something goes wrong, you can cancel it, and return/swap the TiVo.
