I have two multiroom questions. Here's my scenario: I will have 2 Tivo's (HD and Premiere or possibly 2 Premieres) and one is connected to FIOS with two S-stream cards and my other one will most likely NOT be connected.

1. Can I set it so that whatever records to the main TIVO is automatically transferred to the other TIVO? Or do I have to manually do it each time?

2. Can I control what I record on the tivo connected to FIOS from the other Tivo? And if so, can the automatic transfer take place almost instantaneously?

Thanks

1. Can I set it so that whatever records to the main TIVO is automatically transferred to the other TIVO? Or do I have to manually do it each time? You can automatically have recordings transfer to a computer, but there is no way to do this with another TiVo.

2. Can I control what I record on the tivo connected to FIOS from the other Tivo? And if so, can the automatic transfer take place almost instantaneously?I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are asking, but there is no need to "control" the other TiVo. When you use MRV (multi-room viewing), the entire recording is transferred from one box to the other. Assuming you have a reasonably fast network, you can pretty much start watching as soon as you initiate the transfer. If you wish to skip the commercials, then you may have to wait a bit while more of the recording transfers.

I actually do something along those lines using a combination of both kmttg (http://code.google.com/p/kmttg/) and pyTivo (http://pytivo.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/PyTivo). I have kmttg automagically download shows from one TiVo, strip out the commercials, and then send them to another TiVo via pyTivo. This method requires a computer, so natively, no, the TiVos can't auto MRV "out of the box". I'm extremely happy with my setup, watching commercial-free programs.

Although you can't control the first TiVo from the second, again with the computer, you can use several different websites to setup single episode recordings and Season Passes. I hope soon the functionality of web control expands to include Wishlist creation, and program deletion.

Yes. The only drawback. I never get to see the last 30 seconds of shows like 30 Rock, The Office, Community, etc. Some shows I've tweaked the "comskip.ini" to resolve issues. There's syndicated Star Trek: TNG that ALWAYS used to record a 120 second Dish (spit) commercial because comskip (http://www.kaashoek.com/comskip/) (that kmttg incorporates) said anything 120 seconds or greater "must be show". I extended that to be 125 seconds, and no more Dish adverts. kmttg allows for a single comskip.ini to be used by default, or an override comskip.ini to be specified on a show by show basis. For me, I'd have to say that commercial detection accuracy percentage is in the high 90s.
