I'm going to be upgrading my HD box to a new Premiere box, and I was wondering if there was/would be a way to transfer my settings/season passes/thumb ratings/etc from my old box to the new one. I'm not expecting to be able to transfer the recorded shows themselves (though that would be a nice bonus) but I really don't want to go through and redo all of my season passes and re-train this new tivo with what I like. Is there a way to do this through the website or something?
Thanks!

Alas, unless TiVo comes up with something new, no there's no way to transfer settings.
You can transfer your shows though if you have a home network and your cable company doesn't copy protect them. Just connect both units to your network and each recorder should who up in your Now Playing or My Shows.
I'm just speculating here, but being able to transfer shows might also make it easier to recreate your season passes. Just go into the details for the program and there should be an option to explore that program. That should take you to a screen where you can set a new season pass.

Personally the initial setting of season passes I almost enjoy lol. Then again it may be due to the fact it is so much easier to add them in the order you want them rather than shuffling them while trying to guess the best order.

Bummer. Seems like such a shame considering all of our programming information is already accessible via the website, would be so easy for them to just load all this info from one box to another.
Last I checked almost every one of my shows is protected, so I don't think I can grab them. I was thinking maybe as part of the migrate process I could "move" the shows instead of "copy" them, which I assume would be in compliance with the protect bit.
Oh well. Tivo - are you listening? Make a way to migrate from one box to another if you want us to keep buying new units!

I own 3 Tivo's (original, HD, and now Premier) - two of them going on eBay next week. TIVO has really screwed up here. There is no way to transfer settings, season passes, and preferences (thumbs up and downs) to your new device. When I buy a new Apple Mac, a cable between the two and a migration assistant puts my old mac on my new mac. TIVO has no such feature.
This wouldn't be a big deal if this is your first TIVO. But having been a loyal customer for over 10 years, those of us that have spent the most $$ with TIVO are punished the most. I sat for almost 2 hours, with two TV's and remotes, re-entering each season pass, wishlist, and as many preferences as I can. Kind of like a cave man.
Bad business.

This has been my #1 complaint with TiVo for many years. It is insane that they release yet another box and STILL have no way to save settings, season passes, channels, preferences, ratings, etc to a flash drive, other network box, or at least a cloud server. It would have to be no more than a few hundred kilobytes.
Every time your box fails and you have to send it back, or anytime you upgrade to a new box, you have to spend hours re-entering EVERYTHING. And all your ratings are lost FOREVER.

Next time to save a ton of time you could do it the way I transfered 150 season passes. Turn on the TV go to season pass manager and log into TiVo.com and then enter those new season passes using one click settings. It took me maybe 20 minutes and allowed me to put them in the same order.

Still a stupid workaround, albeit probably the easiest way. Tivo should've had this long ago, I agree.

As long as it is an option I am fine with it. I would hate for it to happen automatically without prompting.
One thing I found by doing it my way was I found shows I no longer wanted to record so I was able to whittle my list down to 150 shows. Also with suggestions I would much rather start fresh since depending on the age of the TiVo, I may no longer like the shows but I definitely don't want to go through all my rated shows to change them based off the number.
The stupid thing is that if TiVo would just provide a more robust public API that includes support for manipulating season passes, someone would have done this for them by now.

I did this too when my whole guide changed but some shows were not on for the next 14 days (like some HBO shows) and I forgot about them when they came back on months later :( If tivo would allow season pass backups then I would buy the premiere ASAP.
