Greetings!

I am about to order my first TIVO (Premiere) and looking forward to sending TWC their crappy DVR back.:)

I do have a question regarding the remote that ships with the TIVO Premiere:

I am not interested in going for the XL unit (which ships with the Glo-remote, with learning capability). I was planning on just getting the base Premiere unit, but I would like a remote (similar to my TWC one), that has the ability to control my TV, AV and the TIVO itself.

Today, on my TWC remote, I can select "All on" or "All off" and it will turn off the TV, AV and DVR. Further, I can control the AV volume with the TWC remote.

Will the base TIVO remote shipping with the premiere do this? Does it have learning codes, for TV/AV brands? If not, I'm kind of ticked that I would have to spend an additional $50 to buy the Glo remote as an accessory just to get the learning capability.

Any help would be appreciated. Excited to finally join the TIVO universe.

There are two different issues here that you are confusing (I think). All TiVo remotes have the ability to receive a four digit code to adjust volume, power, aspect on both your TV and receiver. If your TV and receiver are in the database that TiVo has, there is no problem and you should be able to control all 3.

If your equipment is not in the remote database, then you'll need to learn the actual signals that are needed to control your equipment. For that you need a learning remote, whether a TiVo or some universal remote. Only the Glo remotes (comes with the old S3 and HDXL, and a different one with the new Premier XL) are learning remotes on the TiVo.

If it's important to you, you'll have to pay the extra $50 or get a Premier XL.
