I have not used TiVo since I quit using my Series 2 for TWC's HD and DVR service. I have missed TiVo everyday since, but I only watch HD channels. I have been stuck with the Scientific Atlantic 8300 for over 5 years, with no improvements or better receiver the whole time. I can honestly say, this is the worst electronic device I have ever used. It is so basic and outdated, I don't know how TWC stays in business. I have been told for over 2 years now that new boxes are coming soon. I have decided that soon is never coming.

So I am contemplating the new Premiere XL or just moving to DirecTV. I want the multi room viewing and the remote scheduling, and basically everything TWC does not offer directly.

I have an extremely nice home theater setup (outstanding picture and audio) and my cable box is keeping me from truly getting my enite value out of it. Blu-Ray, PS3 and XBox 360 are all perfect, but unfortunately, my favorite shows, channels, and sports teams are not available on those platforms. Does anyone have any thoughts about the picture and video quality of the new Premiere? Is it the same as the Tivo HD? If so, does anyone have experience with their cable co's equipment and the TiVo HD?

I would hope that the TiVo's have better audio and video processors than the SA 8300, as I experience some video and audio problems at times. My goal is to have the best picture and audio that is out there.
Thanks for your help everyone.

If the new Premiere doesn't have a better picture than a five year old SA 8300, I'd be shocked. Technology has come a long way in that time, and the S4s will be utilizing very current hardware. Be aware, however, that the limiting factor in picture quality is often the cable feed itself. In order to give customers all the HD they crave, many channels are overly compressed. If picture quality is of the utmost importance, you may want to consider going with an OTA feed for your locals. One nice thing about the S4s (and the S3s for that matter) is that they do a great job combining OTA and cable feeds into one seamless guide.
