So, I log into my Tivo account to see about upgrading my series 3 to the new Premier XL. I was willing to pay the $399 + $199 for lifetime service, because essentially that would mean I would be paying for just the box + $100 for the lifetime service, which I was ok with.

Anyways, I have an original Series 3, and two Tivo HD units active on my account. The Series 3 was purchased and activated when it first came out, and the two Tivo HD units were both purchased/activated in December 2009. All 3 have lifetime service. (Also I used to have a Series 2 from July 2004 but replaced that with the Series 3).

Anyways, apparently I only qualify for the $200 off lifetime service, but no discount on the unit itself. Which since I have existing boxes means I am only saving $100 by adopting early. Well to me $700 vs $800 isn't really much of a savings so I told them forget it.

Still, how come I don't qualify for the 20% off even though I am an existing customer?

edit: Nevermind, I got the answer. The 20% off is only if you don't already have lifetime service on a unit. Completely f&@$%ed up...

I believe that you only get one, either the $199 lifetime or the 20% off purchase. Not both. I actually have neither so I agree with the subject of the thread. I think it's because I'm still under contract until March 24th. I assume that once that date passes I'll be eligible for the 20% discount but we'll see.

That's almost correct. The 20% discount is for when you choose to upgrade a monthly Tivo whether you have any other lifetime Tivos or not.
I have 5 Tivos (4 lifetime and 1 monthly) and the monthly qualifies me for a 20% discount but any of the lifetime Tivos qualify me for the $200 discount on lifetime service.

I have 2 Series 2. One has a Lifetime service on it and one has a $6.95 month to month service on it. My "eligibility" shows I can get the discount lifetime + standard pricing on the Premiere for my LT Series 2 or 20% off the premiere unit for my month to month unit.

Any chance they will let me mix and match? I thought not!

It costs about the same either way. I have two boxes on monthly that will end in a few months. I can get the 20% discount and then add teh lifetime this Summer when the subscription ends for $300(assuming those prices are still in effect) Or I can get a box at cost through one of my Lifetime units and get Lifetime service now. The price ends up close to each other.

I don't think it's correct to say that the 20% applies only to those with monthly TiVo service. I have one and only one unit, a TiVo HD bought in late 2007. I bought 3-yr prepaid, expiring then. I was offered 20% off the purchase price.

Still, I'm not completely clear (they're not helping, either!) about my options should I want to buy a Premiere and keep my existing TiVo HD with respect to getting lifetime or not, MSD offerings, etc. So I'm mulling things while I wait in hopes that my options will get clarified either by TiVo or by those here knowledgeable in such matters.
