If I disable my existing 500gb MyDVR Expander from my Tivo HD & erase all the content - will it work with the new Tivo Premiere?

Curious to know as well whether MyDVR will work with TiVo Premiere

faq on tivo website specifcially says you can buy a tb mydvr from tivo to work with the premier

It should work fine. IIRC if you connect a drive to the eSATA port which already has data on it the TiVo will simply warn you that it needs to erase everything to use it. There should be no difference where the data comes from.

That's good news - thanks Dan & Michael. I did notice in the specs the tb mydvr could be used on the esata port, but I wanted to use my existing 500gb mydvr - perhaps it's not listed as an option because WD doesn't make the 500gb any more... Makes sense "There should be no difference where the data comes from". This should also give Premiere a little more recording space than my existing TivoHD.

I'm sure the premiere will see the drive, whether it will let you use it depends upon whether TiVo has blessed that drive model for this platform. I think that OPs question remains open until there is an official statement of support by TiVo.

Well the My DVR Expander is the WD drive that is officially supported on the S3 and TiVo HD units, so I'm pretty sure they will also be supported on the Premier.

Plus, as MichaelK pointed out, they specifically mention the 1TB WD drive as an option for the Premier in the FAQ.

Just thought I'd bump this thread...I'm considering an upgrade from the TivoHD, and it'd be great to be able to just get the TP and add on my 500GB MyDVR Expander, and not have to spring for the XL. Has anyone successfully used the 5-hundo on the premiere?

I have 2 500GB My DVR Expanders on Premiere units. They work fine and I've had no issues with them.
