And now this announcement.

3 weeks ago we bought a new TiVO HD from Best Buy for our new apartment to replace our awful Time Warner DVR. We are moving next week so now it sits un-opened before we move... and now this has been announced. We haven't activated or anything.

What do you think the chances are of Best Buy taking this back so we can buy the Premiere? I think it is wrong they were even selling them with such a huge change in the product.

It just looks so fab... I don't even want to look at the old one anymore!

I also bought a Tivo XL a week or so ago. But...I knew the XL's and HD's were on closeout. The price tag at the store said so. Closeout? Aha! They're finally releasing the new unit. I still bought the XL on closeout. 399 plus a LS discount for previous ownership.
Good enough for the bedroom.

I picked up my CC's from the local cable office and connected the Tivo to my LCD. The CC installation was relatively painless. I did the phone call to my Cable co. The information they needed was on a grey/black screen and provided all that was needed.

I am not disappointed in my decision. The XL is nice. I don't want widgets, netflix, Amazon, etc. I just want a good guide that's easy to use.

I am going to get the Premire XL soon. I want to replace a Cable co DVR in the living room. I am not too enthused about the new UI. I do not need all the crap that comes with "web" integration. I am going to get a sybas Popbox to stream all the pirat...er...home video's I have accumulated.

On the hardware side, I wish most of these company's would supply a coax digital audio out along with the optical. I am out of optical connections and and have a coax empty. I am sure I am not the only one running out of optical in's. Sure I can get a optical to coax converter, but it's ANOTHER thing to clutter/plug in.

I am now waiting to see what the guide looks like before I pull the trigger.

On the Premiere? You can switch to use the old UI if you wanted to.

I'm curious, when you switch to the classic interface, has it been recreated in flash, or is it still running the old way?

Not sure, but I know the Classic UI is the only way to use Kidzone.

I like reading that. Interesting, I have read just about every thread entry across many websites/blogs and have not run across that option in the descriptions. I look forward to seeing what the old vs new interface looks like and am glad I will have the option to change. Thanks.

I am still looking for an image of the new guide. (If it is new) I like the live guide view very much. I used to be a grid guy.

My HDTV only has digital optical audio out. I was looking at getting a cheapo new amp with 1 digital optical in. Now Tivo Premiere has digital optical out, so I need two digital optical ins, but I may now shoot for 3 or 4 digital optical ins on a new amp. I'm glad I waited to for the specs on the new Tivo.

From Tivo's webpage:

Can I keep the classic UI if I want?
Yes. The classic TiVo interface we've used all of these years is available. Customers will be able to choose between the two "menuing" systems, although not all features will necessarily be supported in the classic menus.

Are all the current features available in this new UI?
The new Premiere HD menus allow all of the same functionality that differentiates TiVo from generic DVRs
At this point, the only features not available at launch are TiVo KidZone™ and Guru Guide functionality; however, KidZone and Guru Guides are available in SD menus on Premiere and Premiere XL.

Haven't heard or seen anything about the new guide. I don't think they showed it at the press release.

Crap I bought one from Tivo exactly 60 days ago. :( I wonder if they would reconsider?
