Help me here. What is the big feature in new TiVo that would make me spend $300? What am I missing?

The biggest feature is the new Flash-based HD user interface which is supposedly snazzy. That's... about it.
It's fine as an upgrade to an S2, but isn't exactly blowing away the minds of a lot of S3/THD owners.

If the hardware is more robust in handling signal errors then it's a definite step up from the HD.

You should buy it if you want an HD TiVo.

Hello media center.
and THAT is the issue... win7 media center blew it open and brings:
- multiroom sharing
- up to 4 tuners
- OTA HD
- $100 hot stuff qwerty with DiNovo mini
- very high end HD interface
- easy to increase storage
- wide open app extensibility
- download from any source easily
- super hot performance on medium to low hardware we have laying around the house
with all of that capability... I don't see the argument to go Tivo, Moxi, Boxee, or anything else
I'm gonna throw away the board from my Sony Tivo, put a micro atx board and a lp tuner in it and rock out.....
oh... and one of these days.... Microsoft is gonna turn on silverlight Internet 1080 TV (did you see the Olympics site?) and goodbye cable...

All microsoft has to do is make a small pc and make it so, everything is preset up for the user. I think the 4 tuner limit is gone in Win7, or will be removed.

Because most people don't want a Windows PC hooked up to their computer. Who wants to keep up with the security stuff on their TV. All it would take is a Windows Update getting stuck and some malformed media file.
