So when Tivo came out with their second Series 3, the Tivo HD, they put the cablecard slot in the front of the unit. This made things easier for the card installation, but now I see they went back to using the rear of the box again. What is up with that?

Does it really hurt?
I looked at my Cablecard slots 3 years ago, when Mr. FiOS installed the cards. It's so much easier to manufacture the chassis if you don't have to worry with special sliding doors and covers to fix the aesthetics of a gaping PCMCIA slot showing....

Then why did Tivo redesign the Series 3 so the cablecard slots were in the front in the first place?
And for me yes, it does hurt having the slot in the back, as my Tivo is located in an area not easy to get at with wires all over the back.

but how often do you ever touch the card?
in *THEORY*- it should be installed once when you buy the box and never touched again.
Someone suggested that it was cost cutting, but I'm guessing that with the new slimmer dimensions real estate in the box is at a premium and the general layout dictated a rear slot.

I haven't seen the backs of my TiVos in years.
