One thing I haven't seen mentioned -- we saw in the leaked back panel pic that there was no rear fan port. So... was the illustration accurate? Does the fan exhaust on the bottom, or side? Or is there really no fan? I'm intrigued by the prospect of a fanless TiVo, especially for the bedroom.

The picture shows no fan. I wonder if there is some internal fan?

If the unit were fanless, when solid state drive (SSD) capacity increases and prices drop enough, it would be a great upgrade to swap the internal drive for an SSD. No fan, solid state drive, totally silent operation. At that point there would be no real reason for Tivo not to release a tiny "Tivo Portable" that you could just unplug from the HDMI and cable and put in your suitcase when you travel.

Would a SSD be a good idea in a DVR (that is recording 24/7)?

Right, that would be the worst application for SSD as currently implemented.

Apparently the illustration was not accurate in this respect. We have a photo now:

I would prefer the cable card on the front... I don't want to yank the whole box and all my cables out when the cable guy comes over.

Use slightly longer cables?

Only One Cable Card port? How is it a dual tuner then?

you need an M-Card for dual tuners

Multi-stream cards are standard now anyway. Single-stream cards aren't made anymore.

From your lips to God's ears. I had 3 different guys come over to get my S3 up and running, once upon a time.

Yet Cox refused to give me an M-Card as recently as last summer. :(

No, more like 2 or 3 times before the cable company gives you a card that works, then once more when they decide that they have to change out the card when they go to SDV because for some reason the older cards stop working after you add the SDV Tuning Adapter, then twice more when a bad firmware update kills half the cablecards on the cable company's system...
Trust me, having the cablecard slots on the back is really annoying. (I have an old Series 3, and the sequence of events above really did happen. Because Charter is completely incompetent.)

I've had my tivo 4 months, and the cable guy out here 4 times with cablecard issues.

Is it going to support 2-Way or still 1-Way like the HD?

Just an alternate perspective, but I've have gone through several CableCARD installs all of which went off without a hitch and work perfectly from day one. <shrug>

That may be true, and my first Tivo has a M-card. However, I bought a 2nd Tivo a month or two ago and the Verizon installer only had 2 S-cards. :(
nice - only 4 screws to get the case open :)

I think the title may be a bit of an exaggeration. There are a couple of people who seem to be fans of the Premiere.
Oh, sorry...I misunderstood.

I had a lot of problems with S-Cards failing but none with getting them to work in the first place. For me, the M-Cards have been a LOT more reliable and I don't mind at all having the slot in the back.
I plan on just popping the two M-Cards out of my S3, tossing one in each new box, firing them up, and then never looking at the back again.

Not with FiOS they aren't.
