anyone from TiVo care to comment on if the eSata port is alive? And if it is- does it have to be an 'offical' drive or can any eSATA drive be used now?
and still the TB limit?

I certainly have no official answer, but I would definitely expect it to be an 'official' drive requirement, since that makes it much easier to qualify that it works.

I suspect that Tivo and Western Digital have parted ways - possibly because of the poor (actual) MTBF of WD's drives. So if they have parted, I applaud the decision.
The whole 'official' drive thing has always seemed fishy to me because only one vendor's drives ever qualified. That simply smells bad.

The 1TB WD expander appears to be back in stock at TiVo.com and Amazon.
