I have a TiVo Series 2 model TCD24004A. I'd like to replace the hard drive (it's been making a ton of noise recently). Can I simply take a hard drive from another 24004A and replace my old one with that? I don't have any recorded shows I need saved, so I don't mind erasing.

And if that works, would other model TiVo hard drives also work in my 24004A? Such as the 240040, 240080, 24008A, 540040, 540080, 540140 etc...

Thanks.

You can put a drive in from any 140 or 240 unit.

When the drive is in the new unit, you'll need to do a "clear and delete everything" to get it to reserialize to the new motherboard. More info is here:

If you already have a second TiVo then that is a good idea. If you are planning to buy one just to get the hard drive it is cheaper to purchase a hard drive and image it yourself or even buy a preinstalled drive from somewhere like weaknees or dvrupgrade.
