Sorry, this is probably a FAQ..

I have gotten recordings off of my Tivo with Tivo Transfer, the Mac..

I wanted to play around with getting them back on my Tivo (some I've transferred off simply to make room, e.g. for Olympics or stuff I'm recording during olympics that would otherwise fill my Tivos).

I was able to have my Tivos see Galleon running on my Mac, and I pointed that at the directory where Tivo Transfer downloaded.. I didn't actually try transmitting back to the Tivo yet, but there were already problems on the Tivo end...

1) the recordings showed up as 0:00 length (possibly related to the next problem
2) the recordings showed up with the same filename they had from Tivo Transfer, e.g. something like:
SHOWNAME_DESCRIPTION_SOMETIVONUMBER
instead of showing the normal user readable name.

Is there some way to fix this so that the Tivos get all of the normal human readable info from the .Tivo files? Tivo Transfer seems to *mostly* know about this from its downloads (sometimes it seems to be missing the channel number).

thanks.

I'm not familiar with how TiVo Transfer on the Mac works, but it's possible the resulting downloaded file is not the same .TiVo format as on PCs, which might be what Galleon is expecting when it tries to read the metadata.

It might be worth looking into converting those downloaded files into plain MPEG-2 and then using something like pyTivo (which supports external metadata files) to transfer them back to your TiVo.

They come in .TiVo format already from the TiVo. But I know nothing of how Galleon handles .TiVo files.

pyTivo will show all the info, if you make tdcat (from the tivodecode package) available to it. But in the meantime, just try transferring the file back (with Galleon, TiVo Desktop, pyTivo, or whatever), and I think you'll see all the info once it's on the TiVo.
