View Full Version : Wishlist for NFL games?

How do I create a wishlist for NFL football games? I'm constantly missing games because my existing wishlist for Sports/Football pulls up all of the talk shows, and only grabs the first 200 or so matches before it gives up, so I can only schedule recordings a day or two in advance (i.e. I can't see Monday Night Football on my upcoming shows on Saturday because it's drowned out by all the talk shows I never ever ever watch or record.)
Extra bonus brownie points for anyone who gives me a recipe that only shows games airing on channels that I subscribe to (broadcast, ESPN, NFL) and not all the PPV channels.
(I'd be willing to accept a wishlist that included college games, those are easy enough to ignore. Sports/Events gives me too much noise for all the sports I'm not interested in. No, I don't want to create 32 wishlists to capture all of the teams -- and my attempt to create a wishlist for my favorite team also drowned under the multitude of team-specific talk shows.)
I have an older Tivo (supplied by DirectTV, not sure of exact model), is this problem fixed in newer versions? Failing that, is there another brand of DVR that would let me do something so apparently simple as listing all the games off of channels I subscribe to?

How about including searching for keyword "at"? As in "Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets".

Did you already give yourself the answer with the question? Take the PPV channels out of the TiVo's list of "Channels I Receive": TiVo Central > Messages & Settings > Settings > Channels > Channel List

see this post: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=419994 and go to item number 10. Then enter in which teams you are interested in, or some other common phrase in the title.

Is that the correct link?

Upcoming episodes for Wishlist CATEGORY Sports: Football KEYWORD AT lists only NFL football games for me, with no pre/post game shows.

Isn't there a category way down on the list named "live event" or something like that. I had this issue when trying to set up a season pass for Penguin games, and I think I got around it by doing that.

I must have a different software version than you all do, because I can't find the features you're describing on my menus.
I have a Hughes DirectTV Tivo, running software version 6.3e.01-2-151
I don't want to follow a specific team -- I just want to set up a wishlist that will find whatever game is showing on Saturday, Thursday, etc. (I'd also like to set up a wishlist that will autorecord games for one team -- but that would only get one or two games a season.)
Under the menu
Pick Programs to Record
Wishlist Search
Create New Wishlist
I have only these choices:
Actor Wishlist
Director Wishlist
Category Only Wishlist
Keyword Wishlist
Title Wishlist
Under Category/Sports I have the various sports, but no Events, and under Football there are no subcategories at all.
If I go to a Keyword wishlist, and put in AT as my keyword, and then Sports/Football as my category, I get all the games, plus a lot of talk shows. (I suspect that might miss the playoff games, though.) It's better than before, though.
BTW, I discovered that all the paid-subscription sports channels (including some of the college channels) had gotten re-added to my list of "Channels I Receive" -- once I deleted them those games stopped showing up in my list. I should have thought of that sooner -- thanks for the tip. (My Tivo goes crazy on my list of channels once or twice a year.)

Is that the correct link? :confused:It's under TiVo Tips #5 (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=7097288#post7097288):
Create a series recording for all games with your favorite sports team.
Create a new WishList under Find Programs -> Wishlists.
Enter the first part of the program title as a single Title Keyword (ex: MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL).
Enter the team name as single Keyword (ex: Washington Nationals).
Select the category of Sports: Sports event.
Set the WishList to Auto Record with "First run only".
This will record all new games for your favorite team -- regardless of date, time, and channel -- so long as they don't conflict with higher-priority series recordings. If you have folders enabled, these games will be organized into a single folder with the name of the team.
You can set the same options that you do for any other recording -- number of episodes to keep, start early or end late, etc. You set the series priority of this recording in Season Pass Manager, just as you do with any other series.

Click here (http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm314/ilovehdtv/Other/TivoHD/large/nowplaying5_date.png) to see an example of how these sports recordings show up in your recorded list.
To make certain you get the 16:9 SD and HD versions of your sports broadcasts when available, remove (uncheck) the SD versions of the appropriate HD channels from Settings -> Channels -> Channels List.
TiVo introduced this feature on standalone TiVos back in 2007. Many DirecTiVos got it last year. There are still some older DirecTiVos with the original (i.e. much more limited) wishlist functionality.
If you have one of those older DirecTV boxes, you can create a wishlist for all NFL games by creating a title wishlist with "NFL FOOTBALL" (with parenthesis), set to record first-run only. If you want to record a specific team, create a title wishlist with the full team name in parenthesis and the word AT, set to record first-run only.
