My master drive died, as per WD diagnostics. My second Seagate is A-OK. Do not have back up image of master. Can I somehow get the second drive to work without buying an image from instantcake? Unit is SVR 3000 with lifetime service.

No, sorry. You'll need to restore from an image of a primary disk.
