I can't seem to be able to access my music anymore. TiVo desktop plus can see both my TiVo's, but the TiVos can't see my laptop. Any suggestions?

Bump. Any suggestions? I've forwarded the ports properly, but still no luck. TiVo support is pretty useless.

More detailed info:

My TiVo Desktop Plus used to work fine, now I can't play music or choose which PC videos to upload to my TiVo's. What used to say "Phil's Laptop" is now just an IP address. Somehow the IP addresses in the TiVos were wrong, so I corrected that. I also turned my firewall off. Then TiVo support gave me a list of ports to forward, and I did that, but I still have the problem. When I try to look at the server under "Music, Photos & Showcases" I get the message "No servers were found at ..."

The version of TiVo Desktop Plus is 2.7, and when I search for updates, it tells me I have the most recent version, but TiVo support says there is a version 2.8. I also can't find my activation code to TiVo Desktop Plus.

The same sort of thing happened about three days ago on my setup. My two Tivos no longer see either of my two computers that are sharing music.

From the Tivo Desktop, I can see now playing on both Tivos though. I've seen similar sort of hangup in the past, but nothing a Tivo reboot wouldn't fix. No dice this time.

When I first noticed it was after the recent Tivo privacy message arrived on my Tivos.

IP's all seem fine; everything in fact, except that the Tivos don't discover either of my computers music shares. One computer is running XP, the other Windows 7.

Any ideas?

I think the Tivo Beacon doesn't work right on my system. Desktop using Bonjour fixed the problem immediately.

Can you explain what that means?
Thanks!

...I also can't find my activation code to TiVo Desktop Plus.

You may be able to find at this location in the Windows Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TiVo\Desktop\PlusUpgradeLicenseKe y

I also posted on TiVo's help forum, and got this reply. I did what he suggested (delete servers, set to find automatically, then reboot), but still have the same problem.

I have noticed that manually entering your computer's IP address under Music Photos & Showcases can sometimes screw things up rather than helping. Try deleting the entry in MP&S, make sure that the Access Control tab in the TiVo Server Properties dialog in Desktop is set to Automatic discovery, and reboot both ends.

If your PC has multiple network interfaces, Desktop may be using the wrong one. In the Configuration tab of the TiVo Server Properties dialog, look at the Change button. If it isn't grayed out you have more than one interface.

You also said that support gave you a list of ports to forward. You don't want to forward any ports, just make sure that they aren't blocked by your firewall(s). Also check your router for anything labeled multicast or broadcast filter, and make sure that it isn't enabled.

Desktop uses two different protocols to discover other devices. Early versions used TiVo Beacon, 2.7 uses Bonjour, and 2.8 defaults to Bonjour but supports either version. TiVo Beacon uses broadcast packets on UDP port 2190, so you need to have that port open in your firewall and you need a firewall exception for TiVoBeacon.exe. Bonjour uses multicast DNS broadcasts on UDP port 5353 from mDNSResponder.exe, so you would configure your firewall accordingly.

If you lost your Plus key, you can check the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TiVo\Desktop" key in the registry for an entry named PlusUpgradeLicenseKey. If it's empty you can still retrieve your key by going to http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/196 and in the first section there's a link to Digital River's site. You can enter your email and the last 5 digits of the credit card you used to get a copy of your key.
