Doctor Who is getting Moorcock? Really?
As if we weren't already getting enough of it in Torchwood.

He writes fantasy with a dark brooding edge. I really like his Elric novels and others. Tastes vary. He IS a good writer.

So we'll have lots of stories with the Doctor morosely whining about how terrible the life of a quasi-immortal time-hopping vagabond is... :p

One "problem" with Moorcock is that he is extremely versatile. He has written a lot of different kinds of things across his career; some of them I love, and some of them I really dislike. His style can be quite elevated, in a way that some readers find off-putting. I hesitate to recommend specific books, because different strokes for different folks seems to be magnified when dealing with Moorcock. If you are lucky enough to live in a town with a science fiction bookstore, you should do some browsing in the Moorcock section and see what strikes your fancy.
Personally, my favorite Moorcock stuff is his literary criticism, some of which is collected in Wizardry and Wild Romance. He wrote an article on Lord of the Rings called "Epic Pooh," which nails down half of why I can't stand Tolkein.

After watching Waters of Mars, kinda looks like that's what we're getting anyway!
