I found it to be a fairly entertaining SNL, no standout skits, some good chuckles.

January Jones was freaked by live TV.
I liked the Guide to Throwing a Party.

This episode just didn't do it for me. I ended up FFing through all the skits, except for the Digital Short and the Perfect First Date.
Not that those were anything to write home about, but I was able to sit through them.

My opinion as well. Nothing stood out, but nothing thudded either, everything worked.
If there was a standout, it was probably the digital short, "Somebody's in here, get out!" It was one of those comedy bits that derived it's laughs by just geometrically getting more and more absurd. Well done.
I thought it was interesting how much "retro" motif they had in the show, due to January Jones' roll on "Mad Men." It worked though, as two of the funniest sketches were "Rear Window" and "Lady's guide to throwing a party."
While I guess most everyone of any age has seen the movie "Rear Window", that sketch was definitely one for the old geasers out there. At the peak of her career, Grace Kelley was considered to be the epitome of delicate femininity. The notion that she'd be extremely flatulent was just friggin' hilarious!

The Rear Window (gee what a surprise) bit was embarrassingly bad.

Thought the same thing. When he started saying Grace Kelly was the picture of class or whatever, I said out loud......."and cue the fart machine".
I have tried to like the BEP, but I just cant do it. They just dont do it for me I guess. I think the Will guy should just go off and do his own thing, he appears to be the talent.

I always fall for fart humor, so despite wanting to, I found myself laughing anyway.
The worst part of that sketch was the horrendous impersonation of Hitchcock. For someone with such identifiable personality traits that was pretty bad.

the Cocktail Party guide was the only funny segment. And the BEP are terrible.

Man, what the crap? I've been so defensive of SNL in the last few years-I've watched religiously now for a while.
But this year just blows.
Although, who was doing Kim Kardashian in the Weekend Update? That was funny.
And I'm now convinced Fergie's yet another "can sound really great with processing, sounds like hell live" pop singer.

Why does B.E.P have a drummer? all their songs it's always the same straight drum beat. Almost sounds like a drum machine.

Guide to Throwing a Party was funny. Rear Window was OK, though I wish it had progressed beyond the fart humor. I was a bit annoyed with the exposition at the beginning of it as if the audience didn't know who Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly, and Alfred Hitchcock were. Sudeikis holding his breath was the best laugh of the night.
BEP is not good.

I did enjoy the Guide to Throwing a Party-
Give your Jewish (and Italian) guests at least 2 feet of "ethnic room" since they talk with their hands! :p
If a Black Person shows up--Just kidding! ;)
Call Kitties by their first name and Dogs by "Mr" then their first name, because Kitties are girls and Doggies are boys
That 20 # gelatin mold with meat and - what else? It reminded me of Rachel's trifle from "Friends!"
And the rabid Mad Men fans-Trekkies live in their parents' basements and pretend to be in space-WE live in our parents' basements and pretend to work in advertising--MUCH cooler!

I've been a fan of BEP since buying Elephunk back in 02. The songs that get played on the radio are always my least favorite. They actually make some very creative and original-sounding music, but or some reason the dumb, catchy songs (My Humps, Shut Up) get released as singles while the really good songs are hidden on the album. The three they played last night are no exception. I can't blame someone who isn't a fan for not being impressed by their performances. Listen to The Apl Song, The Boogie that Be, or Alive if you wanna hear BEP at their best.
As for the sketches, pretty meh.
It was cool they had January Jones on, hopefully Mad Men will get some new viewers because of it. I liked that a few audience members knew that Fred Armison is married to Elisabeth Moss, the actress who plays Peggie.

The new cast member who didn't say f**k on the season premiere, Nasim Pedrad. :)
So apparently January Jones is supposed to be an actress? Do I have that right? Because I wouldn't have know it from her performance on SNL.

I thought that was her. Honestly, I am having a little issue telling the two new women apart. Has Nasim been in many sketches? I was thinking she hadn't.

They do kinda sorta look similar to one another. Enough so that when they have any kind of significant makeup, it's hard to know which one it is without giving it some thought.
Jenny Slate did the biker chick in the premiere and hasn't done much in terms of major roles since then, except she was Hoda Kotb in this week's Today Show sketch.
Off the top of my head... Nasim was Kathy Griffin in the first Thursday Night SNL episode this season, plus she was the wife of Iranian President Ahmadinejad, Taylor Swift's roommate, Barbra Walters on The View and Kim Kardashian.

OMG, I skip over them every single time. And I'll sit through almost anything.
I think the only other bit I skip through is Kristen Wiig's "I'm just kidding" character. That and her "Penelope" character (the one who always tries to one-up everyone).
Other than that, I'll pretty much suffer through something no matter how bad it is, but Jon Bovi can't even clear that very low bar for me. :)

This was pretty bad. I also just skipped through every skit. Seth Meyers is just bad. The only good parts of it is when they have guests/commentators, Lou Dobbs was funny and spot on.

Ha ha. I'm just the opposite. I can't stand most of the guest commentators, but I generally like Seth Meyers bits, especially "Really?!?! with Seth and Amy." To me, the Seth bits are usually topical, so they're something different each week. A lot of the guest commentators seem to be some variation of "Here to talk about X is Y" and Y goes to blather on about their one-note bit that is more about avoiding talking about X, and that's supposed to be the joke. Not saying _all_ the guest commentators. But a lot of them seem to be that way.

Thought the Rear Window skit was pretty lame/juvenile and got boring pretty quick.
I do like the Black Eyed Peas and thought they were the highlight of the show!

I liked the Lou Dobbs bit. I thought the actress who played Kardashian looked better than the real Kardashian.
The Black Eyed Peas looked like a bunch of drunk people doing Karaoke.

I thought it was kinda weird that they went on with the Today Show sketch with a different person playing Hoda Kotb. I guess they do that with other impressions of real people (having a second person play them when the first person to play them leaves the show), but I thought this one was odd for some reason. Don't know why. Maybe it's because this particular cast member got fired instead of quitting.

It was just a 'meh' episode for me. Is it just me or does every single Kristen Wiig character sound exactly the same when she tries to change her voice? The only thing she's ever been good in is 2 a-holes with Jason Sedeikis (which they need to bring back).

She does a funny imitation of Suze Orman.

This is a ripoff of a line from the sitcom "NewsRadio" (which I know because I've been quoting it for years :D ).

And this is pretty much the only Kristen Wiig character I haven't gotten sick of.

Actually, there are two I haven't gotten sick of:
Suze Orman and Kathie Lee. So, I'm glad they didn't let the Today show sketches with Kathie Lee die.
However, I thought Michaela Watkins did a far better job of playing an exasperated-and-trying-to-hold-things-together Hoda Kotb than Jenny Slate did.
Indeed, Michaela Watkins was my favorite female cast member last season. Angie Tempura (Biiitchhh Pleeeeeeaseeee!) was the funniest original character to come to SNL in many seasons. Big mistake to get rid of Michaela, IMHO!

I think Slate did a much more straight play at Hoda which I really enjoyed but I found Michaela's eye rolling to be even funnier.

I've been a big fan of this season but this ep just blew. January Jones looked lost.
Only highlights were Rear View Window and Guide to throwing a party. The rest was awful, IMO.

I agree. Did they ever get to the punchline? The smell was so bad the guy playing Jimmy Stewart had to leave. I was really disappointed. I wonder what the skit was supposed to be about?

I liked the Hekyll/Jyde sketch a bit, as well. I also really enjoy the fact that I have tivo when I see stuff like the Kim Kardashian bit - I feel thankful that I have almost no clue who this person is or why she is remotely funny.

The ability seems to extend to her getting angry and screaming "KIDS, GO TO YOUR ROOM!" or "GO WATCH TV!" and no further. She is a looker though.
