Just bought a TiVo HD and so far the multi-stream/tuner card install went better than I thought it would. I installed TiVo Desktop on my desktop and my laptop with different results. Desktop works great, laptop works initially but after rebooting, I get the following error:

Restrictions: this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.

both computers are running XP, SP3 and IE8

I have uninstalled and reinstalled TiVo Desktop on the laptop - same result.

If the laptop logs on to a domain (work) and the desktop is on my home network (workgroup), would that account for this? Seems strange because laptop worked when software is first installed (could access from TiVo).

Thanks,

websta

Sounds like this is a laptop given to you by your employer? They might have group policies in place on the system that prevent the TiVo Desktop components from working properly. You could try to run 'gpedit.msc' and poke around, but if it's a work laptop you might want to tread carefully.

My first guess is that they probably locked out your ability to make changes to the firewall. Restricting your ability to install software or services is another possibility.
