Comcast in Chicago has forced all of its customers to convert to a digital converter box to receive some channels. I have noticed using TIVO series 2 dual tuner, I get a worse picture than just using Comcast's digital converter. Is there a fix for this? Possibly I connected Tivo incorrectly to the Comcast digital converter?

Additionally, any channels that I have set Tivo to go through the Comcast digital converter box have VERY poor sound. When I mean very poor, I have to turn the sound up to nearly max and either Tivo or the Comcast box gives a very staticcy sound.

Any suggestions? I am willing to upgrade to a Tivo HD box, but do not want to make the purchase unless I am 100% that I will not this same problem with Tivo and Comcast.

I guess the first questions would include what connection type are you using between the converter box and the tivo and do you have any options as to what type you use. Also, maybe, perhaps the cables you are using to connect are bad? But would also guess using the same cables straight to TV is good? Your cables are not very well shielded and something in causing interference? Hopefully someone else can help more than I can, since I'm not using a cable converter box. Good luck.

It's hard to say what is causing the issue, so it is equally hard to guarantee anything in terms of what a change will do. If the audio is a problem with your TV or AVR, then a new DVR won't help. All I can tell you is the digital stream coming from your CATV system is essentially unaltered when recording to disk on a TiVo HD. It's analog tuner also does a great job of converting any analog signals to digital and storing them on the hard drive. The audio and video output will be at least as good as anything coming out of a Comcast DVR or STB. Beyond that, I can't say. If the issues are either with the CATV signal or your TV / AVR, a TiVo HD won't help. It won't hurt, either.
