I just wanted to say thanks to the helpful folks on this forum. Earlier today, I happily voided the warranty on my TiVoHD and upgraded the 160 gig drive to a 1TB drive (http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-AV-GP-Intellipower-WD10EVVS/dp/B001VKY8FG/ref=pd_cp_e_1). It was as easy as the instructions (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=370784) made it out to be. From the time I set the box on my work space until I was transferring shows (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817821001&Tpk=SATA%20adapter%20OR%20dock%20two) was about 15 minutes. The orginal drive had about 100 gigs of HD shows on it, so it took almost 3 hours to transfer it, but all in all, a very painless process. The only way to make the process any clearer, IMHO, is to add screen shots to the procedure. But really, that's not necessary.
I was going to wait one more month until the warranty ran out, but the NFL RedZone put this project on the fast track (I LOVE that channel - feels like I watch every game every Sunday). From 20 hours of HD capacity to 157 hours. Nice.
For anyone on the fence about doing this, I say go for it. Also, if for you mac users out there, I did this on my Mac Pro's boot camp partition running Windows Vista Ultimate. I imagine it would have been just as easy to do this using Fusion or Parallels and a virtual PC.
Again, thanks to all who contributed.
