I just wanted to say thanks to the helpful folks on this forum. Earlier today, I happily voided the warranty on my TiVoHD and upgraded the 160 gig drive to a 1TB drive (http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-AV-GP-Intellipower-WD10EVVS/dp/B001VKY8FG/ref=pd_cp_e_1). It was as easy as the instructions (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=370784) made it out to be. From the time I set the box on my work space until I was transferring shows (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817821001&Tpk=SATA%20adapter%20OR%20dock%20two) was about 15 minutes. The orginal drive had about 100 gigs of HD shows on it, so it took almost 3 hours to transfer it, but all in all, a very painless process. The only way to make the process any clearer, IMHO, is to add screen shots to the procedure. But really, that's not necessary.

I was going to wait one more month until the warranty ran out, but the NFL RedZone put this project on the fast track (I LOVE that channel - feels like I watch every game every Sunday). From 20 hours of HD capacity to 157 hours. Nice.

For anyone on the fence about doing this, I say go for it. Also, if for you mac users out there, I did this on my Mac Pro's boot camp partition running Windows Vista Ultimate. I imagine it would have been just as easy to do this using Fusion or Parallels and a virtual PC.

Again, thanks to all who contributed.

James

Hmm... I agree, photos would help! I've held off buying an HD, partly because the HD is so small--and figure there's no way I could manage an HD replacement myself. (Small matters such as don't touch the power supply!)

I'm in the Mac world, too, so if it requires Windows, that's another barrier for me! (I tried Boot Camp and installing Windows XP and it wiped my HD clean! Never again!)
