Background: I'm about to commence my first attempted upgrade. The unit is a Series 1 (SVR-2000) and I'm going to change the 80gb drive to a new 250gb WD drive that I just purchased. I've decided to use winMFS because I really don't want to open my computer and screw anything up and winMFS allows me to do everything via USB cable. Well almost everything.
In war gaming the upgrade I'm reasonably confident that I can execute the upgrade itself but what confounds me is the 137gb (LBA48) issue. I don't think winMFS can modify the S1 kernel therefore I have to use another program to make the unit see all 250gb.
The best solution for that problem seems to be using the copykern command from the "LBA48 Boot Disk for ALL Series1 and Series2 TiVo Models" thumb tacked above.
Thus my question is this is it possible for me to modify the kernel with the LBA48 boot disk via a USB cable?
And if so any hints on how to accomplish that.
Another thought is winMFS allows you to replace the kernel therefore would it be an option to save the LBA48 kernel from the Boot Disk on my computer and then use winMFS to marry it to the newly upgraded drive?
Thanks.
