View Full Version : Delimma When Attempting a Transfer

My Series 3 had Groups "on" (i.e. folders enabled). When I attempted to transfer a recording within the folder to my Series 2 machine, all it saw was the "blue screen of death". I unplugged the power to the Series 2 to reset it as it was the only recourse. This happened twice in a row. My question is: must recordings not be in folders in order to be transferred? If not, what could be the problem? A different recording successfully transferred from the Series 3 to the Series 2 machine a couple of days earlier without a problem. By the way, two programmed recordings were in progress on the Series 3 and one programmed recording was in progress in the Series 2 at the time if that makes any difference. The recording on the Series 3 I am attempting to transfer is not in high definition.

you used the same exact recording both times I bet. THe problem is likely in the recording

Yep, sounds like Toxic File Syndrome.
Have you tried rebooting the Series 3 or transferring a different program?

A program can transfer from the series 2 to the series 3 but not the other way around. I still get the blue screen when I click on the name of a program I wish to transfer in the now playing list as seen from the series 2 when examining the content on the series 3 drive. Any ideas of what's wrong? A call to TiVo technical support resulted in the person at the other end of the phone clueless. By the way, I removed the group/folders option in case it was the problem. It wasn't. The problem still persists. Any ideas, anyone?

Just to be clear, is it only the 1 file that will not transfer?
Have you tried transferring different files and NONE of them work?

I haven't attempted to transfer any other recording. I will attempt to do so and see if the problem persists in which case I'll post again.

Yes, it happens regardless which program I attempt to transfer.

I called TiVo technical support again and the rep had no knowledge of this situation happening to anyone else therefore was of little to no assistance.
However, here is the latest information:
1. The Series 3 HD model (set up using only analog basic cable) has had a 1 TB drive installed (Hitachi make) about 2 weeks ago. (Does anyone know of a problem caused by upgrading the hard drive capacity?)
2. The Series 3 HD model can successfully transfer programs from the Series 2 model without any problem.
3. The Series 2 dual tuner model (still with the original factory hard drive in place) is unable to transfer any recording from the Series 3 HD model. The Series 2 model can see the content (program listings) on the Series 3 model but when clicking on any title to initiate a transfer, a blue screen appears with the picture of a series of lightbulbs across the bottom of the screen and the picture of the TiVo logo/man in the top left hand corner of the screen. The only way to leave this static image is to unplug the electricity to the Series 2 model and let the machine reboot/reset.
Now that I have provided all the details, does anyone know what is wrong or what it would require to fix this problem?
The TiVo CSR said perhaps there is a corruption in the data on the S 2 Hard Drive. Could that be?
