I decided that I wanted to go back and rewatch a few episodes of ST: DS9, but I don't want to go buy or rent the discs. I was surprised to find out that it isn't listed at all in the guide.

Who, if anyone, has the broadcast rights to DS9 episodes currently? If no one, is it expected to return to broadcast anytime soon?

It was last on Spike TV, I believe, and StarTrek.com still lists it as airing Monday-Thursday at 2PM (http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/DS9/) on Spike in the US, but Spike's schedule page (http://www.spike.com/schedule/spike/) makes no mention of DS9.

Either Spike still owns the rights and is choosing not to air it, or the rights have reverted or been transferred to some other party, and StarTrek.com has never updated their page. If you have access to international channels, there are a few listed on the StarTrek.com page, as well; you might have some luck there.

Memory Alpha (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Portal:Main) usually keeps an up-to-date list of when ST franchise eps are broadcast ("Where to Watch", right-side column). According to their list, DS9 is currently not available on any US channel.

Do they have the DVDs at your local library?

Netflix has the complete sets as I am renting them at this time.

Nobody should get their hopes up, if what's being done with TNG is an indicator.

A local independent, owned by CBS (it was a former UPN-owned affiliate) is now running TNG at 4am weeknights, and they're running only a few episodes from each season. Already up to season four, and it's only been a few weeks.

Do you happen to know how long it's supposed to run?

I wouldn't read too much into that because ST: TOS episodes weren't run sequentially either.

I'd heard no announcement, just caught it totally by accident in the listings. Started recording them on the first night, only to find out they started with the pilot, did maybe three more from season one, and then moved on to a few from season two, etc.

TOS REMASTERED was done the way it was done due to the fact the episodes were being remastered according to which ones could be done first to be made available for air.

TNG is being broadcast in order, respecting the seasons, but it's skipping most of the episodes. I don't know if this is an "experiment" to see how its ratings are before they go into a regular run, or what.

Yeah, 4am is an excellent time to try for good ratings.

TNG is also carried on WGN America, if your cable/satellite provider has that channel.

My DirecTiVo records this as a suggestion every night. :)
