Just picked up a TiviHD 20hours for my home. I am a verizon FIOS user, so cable card installation will come Tues. Just looking to see if anyone has any recommendations of settings I should adjust or fun things to try. Thanks

Make sure you do a couple of test calls until it downloads the latest software. Best to do that before FIOS comes.

He means to force a few connections under Settings -> Phone & Network -> Connect to TiVo service.
Got it to work, thanks for the advice.
When I try and pull up youtube, says it will take a few days for the updated software, is that normal?
Otherwise, all looks good.
PS, any recommendations on service, monthy, yearly, lifetime?
thanks to all

If you force a few connections in a row (as described above), the TiVo will download the software sooner. Once the new software is ready for install, the Phone & Network screen will say "Pending restart." The TiVo will reboot on its own during the early morning hours to install that software, but you can force the install immediately by rebooting the TiVo (Message & Settings -> Restart or Reset TiVo -> Reboot TiVo).
Once the new software is installed, it will take a few days for the box to index all the guide data. During that indexing process, the box will be slower than normal.
Be sure to see the stickied Using TiVo FAQ (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=7097286#post7097286) for common questions/answers and setup tips. That's a must read for any new TiVo owner.

I believe Verizon is onstalling 'M' cards so that will give you 2 tuners. You'll see once the card is installed.

Call 1-888-553-1555 NOW and tell them you have TiVo HD unit(s) and require M-Cards. I just had FIOSTV installed a week ago and when I called that number, they made sure he had them. When the Installer called a few days later, I asked him if he had 3 "M-Cards", and he said "he did now". ;)

That's pretty much a judgement call based upon personal preferences. The lifetime is the cheapest in the long run for the first unit provided the unit doesn't get stolen or burned up in a fire. If one decides to get rid of the TiVo, the units with lifetime service sell at a pretty fair premium on ebay. If one has more than 1 TiVo, since the second and third qualify for the multi-service discount, lifetime looks a little less attractive for the second and third unit, but still may be worth it, depending upon one's perspective (and one's luck). I have lifetime on two units and a 3 year on the third. In two more years, I have to decide whether to cough up the cash for lifetime on the third unit, go for a one year contract, or maybe get a different unit. No matter what, it's a little bit of a craps-shoot, and only time will tell how good or bad my decision was.
