I'm just not liking the Dexter as a family guy storyline. I get it, it's tough for a "Lone Wolf" to be in a family. Now let's move on and get back to some classic Dexter.

Just wait till next week. Looks like it's a return to normal. Oops, is that a spoiler?:D
The family thing is just the natural evolution for a very un-natural person. I think they are using it to allow more time for the Lithgow character to develop. There's no reason why they couldn't do both, but showing us too many other killers might take away some of the emotions we are building for that hopeful confrontation and justice.
I was pleased to see him finally use threats against the man's son to reach him and calm him down. It worked on Miguel's brother, making him realize that he needed to stop the violence before it made it to the next generation. I expect to see Dexter realize the connection between this and what the Trinity killer might have done to convince the woman to jump. That's just speculation on my part but it's all connected in the world of Dexter.

Sorry, but I'm loving this season so far, including the family guy storyline. I was rolling with laughter at the scenes of Dexter getting rides with different people and dealing with their music/conversation/etc. "Best of Bananarama today!" ... Masuka's C&W truck :D And, as anticipated, Lithgow is fantastically creepy. A+.
The person who annoys me is Deb. It pisses me off when people are so obviously self-destructive. In a way, Deb is even more socially impoverished than Dexter: at least he realizes his problem and works to fake it. Deb is a complete mess. Gravitating back to Lundy... seriously? *sigh*

yeah, i'm actually digging this season as well, i like the situations where dexter isn't comfortable, some of the one liners crack me up.

I, too, am enjoying the additional levels of complexity created by his new family status. Did I absolutely LOVE old, not so attached, Dexter? Absolutely! But I will accept his evolution as long as he stays true.
Loved the scene with the father who was wreaking the neighborhood havoc (what an unexpected twist THAT was!) which took the place of a kill for the episode.
I agree with MadScientist both about the Deb thing (she IS irritating and if it weren't for her career abilities, she would be dumb as a box of rocks), and the 'rides home from work' thing. Was totally LMAO at Matsuka's redneckmobile and the cw (shudder) 'music' he was blasting. Loved the look on Dexter's face when he exited the vehicle!
Lithgow does creepy, scary as well as anyone so I look forward to the continued development of Trinity. I first saw his ability to do creepy in the movie Ricochet with Denzel Washington.

I still want to know how he is paying for the apartment with out his wife knowing. The office romance isn't needed takes away from the rest of the story line. Wearing the mask the whole time he was walking around was just plain dumb. Had he not had it on he could have said he was walking the area and not have to run and hide. For me the writing just isn't as good as past seasons.

Yeah the whole office romance thing is a time waster and nothing more. Either give those characters something real to do or get rid of them. I like them both from Oz but their talents are being wasted. Lithgow is very good in this.

All of what you said. :)
I loved this episode, and I like the spin they're putting on the show with his family obligations.
As for Lithgow, he was really creepy in the otherwise rather laughable "Raising Cain" by De Palma (and also in the excellent "Blow Out").

That murder-by-suicide scene was super creepy. Chilling.

Yeah, seriously. Of all the violent scenes in this show, that one beat them all. It was hard to watch.

Not just you, I had that same thought, that he would realize that threats to family could have caused the jump. Which will increase even further his "professional" respect for Lithgow's character.
