I was wondering if there's a to mass select or de-select all the channels on the channel list? I just got cable cards and only have basic service so I want to eliminate over 150 channels at one shot rather than uncheck each one.

I also have no need for all those digital channels and numerous channels that play music. Control-Click or Shift-Click would sure be a nice feature.

When I did my guided set up it asked if I got certain channels. Saying I received no premium channels helped. Usually Tivo has some idea of what your cable company serves in its various packages and you can choose between those.

I'm at work so I can't test it out until I get home but isn't there a way to choose just your favorite channels so that only those show up? As I recall, you hit "guide" and then "enter" and then choose what you want to see all channels or just some?

I don't recall exactly if that allows you to show just favorites? That would be just as good as a mass de-select as it would allow you to keep everything selected and then just tag a few favorite channels.

One problem with that would be that WL would try to record off those channels that you don't get but are still marked as channels you receive.

ETA - and the same with suggestions.

Just spend the 5 minutes to go through and uncheck the ones you don't want. In some cases, it may be faster to uncheck everything and then go back and check the ones you want.

Make sure you select "Ok" when done or the changes won't save.

You mark your favorite channels with a thumbs up in the Channels list then select favorites in the guide by first pressing enter.

Not a good solution, for the reason that scandia101 posted above.

Since it moves down when you check each box, it's not THAT big of a pain to go through and uncheck them all.

It's not a feature I would want to implement if I were TiVo. Too much chance of people invoking it improperly and wiping out some of their valid channels that they want to get. At that point it becomes very painful for the user - I'd rather that possibility be avoided.

If you did, I didn't see where you said what TiVo you have. Apparently the HD boxes do not have this, but older boxes allowed you to deselect all channels at once. I did notice with the HD boxes, that when you go into the channel list, at the very bottom of the screen it says to hit the 'enter' key if it's the wrong lineup. Not sure if that would mean wrong stations for the channel number or also means channels you don't get, or what. Worth a try? But would guess somewhere you selected a higher level of service than you get? Otherwise, yeah, probably just have to deselect by hand.

By the same token, I wish there would be tick boxes beside recordings in the delete file that I could tick each one I permanently wish to delete then click a button that deletes all those ticked at once. It's tedious to manually delete each program to get rid of them permanently but keeping perhaps a few programs in there that I may wish to salvage later on.

Quit recording programs that you don't want others to find in the Recently Deleted folder.

For all "normal" purposes, there's no need to delete recordings in the Recently Deleted folder.

Yet even with that, I admit I will purposely go and delete recordings there.. pretty much completely so I can micromanage recording space.

* If I have a partial recording for some reason (usually due to *me* stopping the recording), I will sometimes manually delete it so I don't mis-estimate the amount of free space later. (I would always rather under-estimate rather than over-estimate.. But if there's a 20 minute recording that I think later is really an hour long recording, I could get some programs overwritten.)

* For somewhat similar reasons, sometimes I will delete some lesser shows (documentaries, things that are on DVD that I could rent if necessary) just so I know I have space before I leave for an extended night out.. But I will manually delete some shows in Recently Deleted that I *know* I have watched already.. So to sort of "pre-allocate" empty space for new recordings.. but purposely have some other recordings that can be nuked if necessary.

But again, for most people, they shouldn't really have to delete shows in Recently Deleted, as the Note tells you when you delete programs.
