I've read the threads on this issue, but wonder about timing....

My issue --

Considering taking the upgrade offer and move from my lifetimed S2 to a lifetimed HD. My question is: Can I sell my S2 before actually receiving my HD and still get the multiunit discount?

In other words, I sell my S2 today (cash in hand) and then order my HD today (online) and receive my multiunit discount. Any chance of losing my multiunit discount between the time that I order and when I receive it when the purchaser registers it in his name?

Have a potential buyer offering a good price but wants it right now.

You'll lose the multiunit discount as soon as the S2 leaves your account. What's the real point here?

The above poster is incorrect.

As soon as TiVo ships you the new unit, you can sell your old S2. Just make sure the upgraded TiVo HD shows on your account first.

Or, if your buyer wants the unit right away, go ahead and give it to him and tell him it will take you a few days before you can transfer the Lifetime Service.

Um, what was incorrect? You have to arrange things so that the S2 is still on your account at the time you do the transfer. But you'll lose the MUD as soon as the new owner adds the S2 to his account, so at best you'll have a few weeks of a lower price.

The OP wants the lifetime MUD.

You haven't done the upgrade, have you?

TiVo applies MUD at the time of purchase. Once that is done, Lifetime MUD stays with the unit.

OP has several options when he does the upgrade:
- get TiVo HD with lifetime. He can sell his S2 as soon as order is complete
- get TiVo HD with monthly service, he needs to keep S2 for MUD

I believe you assumed he is using monthly, I assumed he is getting another Lifetime. That's where the difference is.

Since he can get Lifetime Service @ 299, I assumed it's a very good deal and that's what he went with. But we don't know what he's getting since he is not clear about it.

I was unaware that there was such a thing as "Lifetime MUD". I was thinking of the monthly discount for a second unit when the first had lifetime.

It's called MSD - Multi-Service Discount and Lifetime MSD has been around since Lifetime was brought back as a subscription option.

Thanks for all the input.

To clarify, I want to buy a TIVO HD with Lifetime with the MUD upgrade price of $299. If I order while still being the registered owner of the S2, I believe I will still get the upgrade price for the HD ($199) and the lifetime service ($299).

Once the order is placed, I should be able to sell the other unit, right?

Correct! Make sure you get shipping notification with tracking number from TiVo first. At that point TiVo HD will be on your account and you can safely sell/transfer your S2 to another owner.

If you have only single unit on the account - Lifetime costs $399
If you adding a second, third, etc.. unit to the account - Lifetime costs $299.

So it is probably should be MULD (multi-unit lifetime discount) :)

Only if you don't have lifetime put on the new TiVo, MSD on monthly will go away but the lifetime Service will not change in price after you get the new TiVo payed for in your account.

Again, it's MSD.
There's no need to differentiate Lifetime from monthly because they both get discounted for the same reason.
