I'm looking for a way to copy tivo recordings to dvd. I have the tivo desktop and can successfully transfer to my pc, but I'm not sure what to do from there.
I have image burn for my recording software. I'm only looking to use freeware.

Use VideoReDo TVSuite (www.videoredo.com). Its not free but it has a trial period. It can make DVD video in 1 step.

I second that suggestion. Best software I have spent my money on. Quick and fairly easy to use.

VideoReDo TVSuite will do exactly what you want. You can edit out commercials. QSF will correct errors in the stream and can handle other issues. Corrects "isses" in the file that might otherwise result in sync (or other) issues. It works great. Worth the money. Easy to use. Many of us use it.
You want a free program. You're going to have to use multiple programs. You're going to figure out how to use them. Update them.
You can start by using pyTivo to transfer the show to your PC. It will give you an mpg file.
DVDAuthor is a free program that will create a DVD titleset from the mpg file.

There are some GUI interfaces that make DVD Author easier to use.
JMO but I gave up on the free programs. Too many extra steps and other issues.
Why do you want to create a DVD? You can just keep the mpg files on your hard drive (or archive them on DVDs) and transfer them back to your tivo when you want to view them.
Don't take this the wrong way but most of the free tools aren't as easy to use as VideoRedo. The fact that you couldn't find them with a google search for "mpg to dvd freeware" suggests you may be better off with a commercial program.

1. Use Tivo Desktop (free version) to transfer to computer.
2. Use Direct Show Dump to convert .tivo to .mpeg .
3. Convert to DVD with any number of free programs - DVD Flick, FAVC, AVStoDVD, etc.
But if you want to remove commercials then, yes, I'm afraid VideoReDo is the best way to go.
