I recently signed up with Cox, and received their Digital cable and HD DVR. The interface on the DVR is horrible, I am pretty sure it has been used for the past 10-15 years. Not user friendly at all. Can I get away with getting rid of the Cox HD receiver and purchased a Tivo HD and only having the Tivo set up?

Also, I read a few things about a Cox/Tivo partnership a few years back. Did that ever go through? Can I download the Tivo interface for my Cox Cable box? Thanks for the help!

Yes. You'd need to purchase a TivoHD, add the Tivo subscription, and then contact Cox to have them install cable-cards for your TivoHD (likely with additional fees for these cards).

I hadn't heard about a Cox/Tivo partnership - there is a Comcast/Tivo partnership...

If you google Cox and Tivo several articles will come up with info on the partnership. However they are all from late 2006, nothing recent. I was guessing that it has died off since then.

The extra money for the cable card is well worth it. Tivo services are miles ahead of what Cox provides!

Thanks!

Be aware however that the premium services and the pay per view won't be available using the cable card. Having said that the tivo is way superior to the cox dvr.

You won't miss the premium services and PPV as the TivoHD and the Internet will provide more entertainment value.

it seems funny that after all this time Cisco has just as crappy a dvr as 4 or 5 years ago. Why isn't Tivo suing them?

If by premium services you mean HBO, Showtime, etc...that's not true - if you pay for them, you get them, just like anybody else.
