View Full Version : Old Season Pass Recording on Channel No Longer Received

Hi all.

I recently swapped Showtime for HBO with my cable provider. I've made this switch back and forth a few times over the years since getting TiVo. This time, I noticed that since turning off all Showtime channels in the Channel List, a couple of my old Season Passes are still trying to record. If I select a recording of Dexter in the NPL, for example, the recording is blank, as expected. When I choose "View upcoming episodes," the list is blank. Search by Title also turns up nothing. Why is my TiVo recording on channels I've told it I do not receive? And if this is some kind of hidden feature, why does it not find any upcoming episodes? It seems illogical.

I know some will say, "just delete the useless season pass," but 1-- I will probably get Showtime again in the future and would just have to recreate them, and 2-- modifying the Season Pass Manager is so freaking slow I don't have the patients!

ARWLs, which all of my reborn HBO recordings come from, do not suffer from this issue. I guess I was lazy when I created the Showtime passes. Maybe this is the first time shows I've created passes for have still been around at the time of my swap.

This may be relevant, maybe not! I've switched between cable and over-the-air several times with one of our Tivos. Like you, I leave all the season passes in there for both set ups (there are dozens). IIRC (and I may not), it takes a while for the Tivo to catch up or adjust to the change... the to-do list (NPL-2) will often show upcoming recordings on channels that are no longer available. After a day or two, those disappear.

Now, I have even had a couple of "No Signal"s when I went to play back a show--but whether those were the old, no longer available channel or not, I didn't check! I just assumed a glitch with the antenna. But it may have been your exact circumstances...

So, I'm with you on keeping the SPs as they are (for both HBO and Showtime) and see what happens after a day or two. Maybe it will resolve itself. In the meantime, just delete the non-recorded recordings! :)

Thanks for the thought, Evan, but it has been a couple of weeks for me. I've had to delete two Dexter recordings. The one thing I have not tried is restarting the box. I might try that tonight.

Try reording the priority of a couple of shows in the SP Manager. This should force a redo of the to-do list and might get it to recognize that nothing's there. Check the to-do list first to see if it thinks it wants to record Dexter.

On the flip side, I've seen at least one case where an SP would not record a show even though the show existed with valid new eps. I think it was Mythbusters, and I think it was because something changed in the program info to make the Tivo think it wasn't there (nothing found for upcoming even though they were in the guide). Had to delete and recreate that one.

Oops! Well, if it's been several weeks, just waiting a day or two obviously didn't work!

I like slowbiscuit's idea-- reordering some season passes. I did that and it helped-- so it may have been that more than waiting actually come to think of it!

Why is everybody so sure that this is not the intended behavior? (recording on channels marked as not received.)

I've never used it, but I think I've seen discussions of it. It's a way, for instance, to record an SD version of a show on a network for which you want Suggestions to be recorded in HD. My example that I've never gotten around to trying, but perhaps I will now, is that I see no reason to record "Jeopardy" in HD, but in general would like the HD versions of other shows on that network. So I can set up my SP on the SD version, and then mark the SD channel as "not received".

I'm pretty sure I've also this method suggested as a way to avoid Suggestions on a content rating sensitive channel (e.g., you don't want to have some of the more adult HBO shows being recorded, but there are still kids HBO shows that you want a SP for).

It would also be useful when you have a messed up channel schedule and a new channel isn't even offered as an option in "Channels I receive"

Unfortunately, the Showtime programs are still showing up on the To Do List. I'll wait a day or so and see if the TDL resets itself.

I see this happen too, and mentioned it in another thread. I left a bunch of SPs around in case I put cablecards in my S3 (which currently is getting only analog 2-29 or so on cable). The S3 has a bigger hard drive than my TivoHD, which currently has the cablecards. (2 S cards even though I know it supports 1 M card, that's all they had at the time.)
