I have a question. I remember a while back TiVo had a function, or was gonna have a function that enabled you to watch home movies via your TiVo. Part of that too was to be able to send home movies to other TiVo units owned by family or friends. Was this ever enabled?

To further the question, if I copied all of my DVD movies to a server on my home network, would the TiVo consider that a home movie, or would they be viewable on any of my TiVo units?

I'd love to get rid of my DVD collection and save the movies to a server if I was able to watch them via the TiVo.

I believe the service your referencing is Home Movies by One True Media, which is found in the Tivo's Music, Photos, & Showcases.

To answer part II of your question, if you rip the main movie to your computer and save it as Mpeg 2, the Tivo will be able to play it.

Do a search on pyTiVo for how to serve up mpeg2 or some other formats to your TiVo. If you intend to keep the movies on the 'movie server' for repeat viewings then you may want to look into mepg4 formats to save space.

In home media forum there is a lot of discussion of what you are interested in. This thread is a good example

I appreciate you guys help with this.

I am planning on keeping them on the server. I have 7TB of storage available on the one I am getting, so maybe the MP4 may be the best.

Again, thank you!
