I notice that every Wednesday night/Thursday Morning at 12:30 AM,
my Tivo will start recording some program (usually an infomercial) that I have not scheduled. I have had Tivo Suggestions disabled for ages.

What's going on here, and how do I prevent this from happening?

Thanks!

That's where the TiVo gets its showcases and advertisements. It will never interfere with a program you've scheduled.

It uses reserved space on the hard drive.

But it does interfere when I have the channels set for CBS and NBC because I'm watching (not recording) late-night talk shows.

But now, when I switch tuners to see the other talk show, surprise - it's recording an infomercial which I am not at all interested in, and I miss out on the talk show I had planned to watch.

There has to be a way to disable this nuisance.

Yeah, that's the Teleworld Paid Program. The only ways to prevent it that I can think of are to schedule recordings in the same time slots, or to remove from the guide all the channels on which it airs. (I've seen it on Ion and Discovery.) Not that it makes sense to do either of those things; I'm just saying, it's hard to kill.

Also, on a hacked system with TivoWebPlus, you can cancel it from there, but you have to keep doing it daily.

If you only want one entry on your NPL instead of two, create a "Late night" wishlist swith the following title keywords: (Tonight Show) (Late Night). Set to autorecord with first-run only, keep two episodes.

There has to be a way to disable this nuisance. You can't unless you remove those channels or schedule other recordings. On the east coast, this program shows at 3:30am.

Doing that stops Tivo from switching to that channel anyway?
I will have to try that. It's on a channel I never watch anyway. :D

You need to set it to record those shows if it's something you watch. Anytime I watch something I always set it to record. that way if I'm interrupted I know it will be there for me to view. if I don't want to watch it I can always manually delete it or let the TiVo automatically delete it.
I've been using TiVos for eight years now and not had any problems by doing that.

Why, after all these years, doesn't TiVo get this stuff through its internet connection?

Are these ads really sent over those channels? Is it during off-air timeslots or something?

I'd be frustrated too if it happened to me during wake hours (I'm east coast so it doesn't).

not everyone has the DVR hooked to broadband - every DVR does have some way to record shows.

Schedule a recording like BXDTV posts. No more problem

I don't have Ion, but I do have Discovery. And in the two years since I bought my TiVo HD (and it's on broadband), I've never had a single infomercial recorded. So what's all this about?

In the Search by Title area of Find Programs type in "Teleworld Paid Program." View the upcoming episodes and you'll see it'll say "this episode will be recorded" even though there's No checkmark. Cancel the recording there. You'd have to check each listing one at a time and manually cancel each one.

Yes! That was most helpful!

Those dirty bastards - sneaking in unrequested recordings on our list.

Thank you for that awesome tip.

So removing channels associated with these Teleworld recordings from "channels I receive" list will prevent the recordings from happening? I'm pretty sure the channel this records from is not something I ever record from anyway so that may be a good thing to do. If it helps reduce ads on the TiVos then I'm up for trying it out.

There will still be the menu ads even if you disable Teleworld recordings; there just won't be the video clips along with them.

Really, the best way to record something is to explicitly record it, rather than expecting it to be in the buffer.

Even if people *were* all connected to the net directly (I'm not -- I hope to try to get a wireless bridge working this weekend), do you realize how much bandwidth that would be?

Tivos are already obviously designed to record and play back TV. Personally, as much as I hate ads, I think this is a somewhat 'clever' way to get that stuff on a Tivo.

and as others have said, it never interrupts your recordings.. so just record the late night talk shows.. jeez.

We've established that part already.

The issue here is Tivo's invasion of your recording preferences,
and now, they even honor the cable's Copy protection b_u_l_l_s_h_i_t

Those two practices have to go.
No one wants them.

Very little bandwidth. It's all highly compressed SD.

I suppose this might explain why I've never seen any such thing since I thought this was referring to something ending up in the NPL.

I've never once seen anything in Showcases that I found even remotely interesting. So I stopped looking. And the vast majority of the "ads" I see on the pause popup also don't strike me as of interest. So I never paid much attention and never caught one of these in the process of recording. Guess I'm fine.

I haven't seen the answer to this yet... Does TiVo actually buy paid programming space on these channels and broadcast the ads across all subscribers to that channel?

Not honoring that copy protection flag is NOT an option unless TiVo wants to break their licensing agreement to use the CableCARDs. That will never happen my friend.

Well, someone has to buy the airtime and yes, AFAIK, all Tivos have a hidden ''season pass'' that records the infomercial.

I was hoping no one would dignify that ridiculous post with a reply.
