View Full Version : Disposing of Old Tivo in NYC

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me. MY tv died this week, but I haven't been watching it for months now anyway (maybe it committed suicide from loneliness). Anyway, I want to get rid of it and my old tivo (tivo has no hard drive), Apparently it's legal to throw it in the garbage but it isn't good to do so, Anybody have any idea what I can do with it, Thanks,

Ebay... Craigslist...

I've seen people buy tivos without hard drives before. You might make a few bucks. Or just put it up for free on craigslist. I'm sure someone will take it off your hands.

You might could look into having it recycled. Most of the larger cities have locations where old/unused/unwanted electronics can be taken to be recycled. If it doesn't have any hard drive, I don't know how much value it may have to someone else, but you could possibly list it on Craigslist or eBay for "parts only", and you might find an interested party to take it off your hands.

Attach a note to it saying: "Here's your TiVo back, Frank" and set it outside your door. Some kind person will adopt it soon!

Oh, sorry. I was thinking of the old pre-Giuliani NY.

Thanks everyone! This is great, I can just take it them to Best Buy. There was no specific mention of DVR player, but they take everything else, I woudl think they'd take them too.

You might want to check with your local goodwill store also. I know here in the West, Goodwill takes e-cycle stuff all the time.

Does your old Tivo have the "Tivo guy" sticker from the front? If so, can I have it? Mine fell off a few years ago, and it hasn't been the same since. I'd be eternally grateful!

Isn't it funny how many of us long for a silly little tivo guy sticker? I have 2 boxes, 1 is missing a sticker. It drives me nuts.

Tivo, please make these available.
