We are experiencing dropouts lasting more than 10 minutes at a time in our cable service from Time Warner in the West San Fernando Valley, CA on Oct 1, 2009. Our Time Warner provided internet also dropped out at the same time that our TivoHD stopped receiving signal. At first we had degraded signal - using the channel signal meter the Tivo showed 42 on signal strength, normally 99.
When we called Time Warner tech service they could only offer two solutions; 1. wait, it will go away although they have no clue what's wrong or 2. schedule a service appointment so that we can waste several hours waiting around for a tech to come out and tell us that the problem is on their end.
Best part of the conversation with Time Warner was when we asked the custom service rep if this occurrence is expected to be frequent and mentioned that we never had issues like this in out 9 years with DirecTV. Her response, "Oh, I have DirecTV.". And then she said " well I can only tell you that in 2008, only 5 Time Warner customers in your area reported outages with our service." We thought "wow, what are the odds?"
Time Warner has been consistent in providing less than desirable service since we joined less than a month ago. The first three times that we had a scheduled installation the install technician arrived without the necessary CableCard and/or tuning adapter.
I post to this info to prepare any Tivo user in the West Valley who might be thinking becoming a TW subscriber of the difficulties. Anyone else out there had similar issues?
