I guess so, but why would they buy it and run it into the ground by taking away viewers, then getting sued...?

I think that's one of the primary reasons the FTC wouldn't let the sale go through. Too much conflict of interest when the carrier owns the production side as well.

Actually, I don't remember if the failure was due to government blocking the deal, or shareholders revolting.

There have already been times when a video distributor owned significant broadcast assets. That's nothing new, and so nothing remarkable.

I do think the FUD being thrown around by corporation-haters could scuttle the deal.
