What the heck is this?

First: Does it have anything (really) to do with TiVo?

Second: Does TiVo know/care about these folks using the TiVo name?

We are sponsoring a live web event on 7 October 2009.

Eclipse IDE now has TiVo for Web Apps
• Wednesday, October 7, 2009 11:00 AM PDT
• Speaker: Jonathan Lindo, CEO of Replay Solutions
• Register for "Eclipse IDE now has TiVo for Web Apps"

See the revolutionary new technology called Replay! This solution allows any software defect, security issue or performance problem to be immediately reproduced at the source code level. Issues can be reproduced without the need to replicate the environment and conditions that the issue occurred in. Developers, QA and Operations Professionals should attend this webinar.
Hope to see you there!

Speaker:
Jonathan Lindo is co-founder and CEO of Replay Solutions, and is passionate about improving the way software is built and delivered. His research has resulted in numerous patent filings for technologies including high performance networking, application virtualization, and the record/replay of computer programs.

A Completely New Approach to Record/Replay
Inspired by one of our favorite technologies - TiVo(tm) - our core technology focuses on simplifying problem resolution in all phases of the software lifecycle. Replay accomplishes this by doing the difficult work of reproducing the root cause of any software defect, no matter how complex the original environment was. Our technology captures every input and event that can affect an application, and then replays these inputs and events in a virtual environment, eliminating the need to recreate the original environment.
Replay is not an incremental improvement of existing products, but a completely new approach to solving a problem that has plagued corporate IT for the last 30 years. Our technology has been designed from the ground up with an understanding of the importance of collaboration between teams, and the need to resolve problems quickly during all phases of the application lifecycle.

Well, they included the little "tm" after the word "Tivo", so I guess that makes it OK!

You can only TiVo something when you actually use a TiVo to do it, anything else is simply a recording.

well just wait until some DVR company uses his company name for their compamny and prod... oh wait.. replay.

bottom line - yes he could be in trouble if TiVo decided they needed to protect their trademark. In fact how silly that he calls his software product TiVo and in the same anouncement specifically acknowledges that the name TiVo is trademarked by someone else.

Based on their web site (http://www.replaysolutions.com/)and wikipedia entries this appears to be purely a software diagnosis tool with no functional or business connection to TiVo other than using the name.

They claim Microsoft and HP as "Partners" on their home page. That could make it interesting if TiVo threatened to sue.
