Att Uverse is now available in my area and i set up a TiVo-HD for a friend and the ATT Uverse comes up as an option (never saw that before for my zip code). Comcast is the system my friend is using and that is a option also, so all works great but I was thought that Att Uverse was not compatible with any Series 3 TiVo, if I am incorrect let me know, but if i am correct TiVo should not even offer it as an option on the Series 3 TiVo guided setup.

Les you are correct ATT UVerse should not be an option for Series 3, but it does exist and is valid for a series 2.

If you set up a TiVo-HD without a cable card installed the ATT option does not exist, only the Comcast option..strange

Not strange.
Comcast installs a cable that has an analog and digital signal on it the tuner on the TiVo can tune in.
UVerse doesn't. UVerse uses Ethernet in various forms to get the TV content to a Set Top Box.

Almost right I think.
Comcast has Analog channels that can be recorded from guide data without a cable card and/or cable box. UVerse is presumably catagorized as cable box only, hence it shows up when cable card is detected. Though as Les originally pointed out a cable card won't help since UVerse is IPTV not QAM.

You are correct that Comcast in my area does still have analog channels (at least until December or January), but why show ATT when cable card(s) are installed if the option is not relevant to TiVos operation??

It probably has to do with how their servers are setup. There are basically two types of providers/lineups in TiVo's eyes... those that require a box and those that don't. On a S2 those that require a box only show up when tell the TiVo you're using a box. However on a S3 they appear to make the assumption that having a CableCARD installed is the same as having a box, so all "box capable" providers/lineups show up as options. Given that Uverse is the only service which defies this assumption, and that it's still relatively new and sparsely deployed, I doubt TiVo has given much consideration to adding a new category of data for services that work on a S2 with a box but not on a S3 with a CableCARD.
