So I had a Time Warner tech out to the house to hook up my tuning adapter the other day. Got one of the actual Time Warner guys, not the contractor. He was a personable guy and a former TiVo user himself, so we got to chatting.
He mentioned that Time Warner will be upgrading their DVR offering. The new boxes will incorporate home networking and sling capabilities. At first, I thought he was talking MRV. But when I pressed, his exact words were "you'll be able to watch your recordings on any internet connected device, any time."
Anybody else heard about this?
If it's true, would you switch?

Time Warner service employees are not privileged to details on future plans. Time Warner has no announced plans for such a device/service.
Time Warner does plan to deploy Scientific Atlanta DVRs with home networking and multi-room viewing in 2010. These DVRs will not have Sling functionality, however.

I can't see any cable company offering any type of "Sling" services. It is against their best interests.

Time Warner has announced a service called "TV Anywhere" that would make television shows available on the internet. This would not be a Sling type service, but instead, something more akin to Hulu, but with shows and networks not currently available through sites like Hulu, and with shows appearing closer to original airdate. Right now, they have only announced VERY limited (5,000 customers) testing, and "at least a dozen" networks participating.
It is my guess that this could be what the tech was referring to.

bkdtv / loadstar,
Thanks for the clarifications. It was just about that point in the conversation when he had to stop and call his supervisor to ask which USB port the TA needed to be plugged into, so I didn't get the full details.
