In December, 2008 I purchased a refurbished Tivo HD direct from Tivo.
It was working great until last month. Troubleshooting with Tivo support confirmed that the internal hard drive had failed so they sent me a replacement.
Shortly after I received it the replacement had problems. About every-other night I would try to use it and it would be locked up - no response to the remote and no picture or sound. Unplugging it and plugging it in again would get it going. Then it got worse and started happening every night. I contacted Tivo customer support and they sent another replacement. They told me if I had trouble with that one they would send me a new one (instead of a refurbished one).
Last night the 2nd replacement was locked up. Every light was on on the front panel and no picture or sound. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and it is working now.
I called customer support and they told me they can't send me a new one. Instead, they think it is a problem with my external drive. They want me to use it without the external drive and without my cable card. The only channels I watch require the cable card!
I did a search to figure out what would cause all of the light to be on (all of them were on, both recording lights, the blue light, fixed, native, hybrid, 480i, 480p, etc., etc.) With Tivo 2 it seems to be a bad power supply. Is it the same for the Tivo HD?
