help please

my harddrive went out on my 540080 series 2. i bought instnat cake but cant figure out how to get it to work. i unhooked my hard drive from the computer and set my cd rom as the primary slave. Changed the jumper to to SL. Hooked up the new hardrive to be imaged, set it to master, loaded the IC cd and turned off the computer. start it up and it say please insert proper boot device or something to that nature. switched the cables around every which way and still nothing. I put the IC cd in my laptop and it says instant cake is there. I derfinately am not computer savy but i think i can follow instructions. anyone got any pics or ideas how to set up properly? thanks, jason

Can you boot the PC from any other CD?

If you only see the InstatCake.iso file on the cd then you need make a new CD form the image. Using Nero cancel out of the wizard select file -> open then find and select the instantcake.iso file that you downloaded then select burn.

this is what i see when i put the disc in the cd rom.

instantcake-IC-TCD540-9.3.2b-01-2-540.iso.zip

i need more detailed info on what your saying about making another cd. thanks, jason

First "unzip" the file into a new folder there should be
instantcake-IC-TCD540-9.3.2b-01-2-540.iso then using your CD burning software burn the image to a new CD. Using Nero form the main menu select file and open then find and select the .iso file then burn it to the CD.

I assume that there is a ReadMe file in the Zip with more detailed instructions on making the CD, I can't find the burning the CD instructions on the DVRUpgrade web site anymore.

What CD burning software are you using?

every time i try to unzip it says it is not valid. this sucks.... is there another way to do this with out instant cake? I have been without my tivo 4 2 weeks now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Download the trial version of WinZip if that will still not un-zip the file the file is corrupt and you need to re-download Instantcake. or have them send you the pre-burned CD.

If you can get a backup image for your 540 Series2 DVR then you could use MFSLive pr WinMFS (www.mfslive.org).
