My TiVo remote (for HD-DVR) suddenly is not responding well. If I press the select button, it goes up one program. If I try to browse the program by pressing up or down, it starts playing the program that is currently selected (instead of allowing me to move to other programs).

On the other hand, my iPhone app for controlling TiVo works perfectly well. So, it looks like the problem could be either with the Remote or the interface between the remote and the Tivo box. I am assuming that if the battery is low, there literally wouldn't be any response or slow response (just not wrong response).

Any ideas why this is the case? Thanks for your assistance.

My Glo Remote gets like that when the batteries are low. This remote goes through batteries extremely fast, so I now use rechargeable batteries and turned off the remote back lighting.

Could be IR interference from another remote or other source. A stuck button on another remote will cause the behavior you discribe. Could be a romote lost under a sofa cushion or the like. That gets pressed by occupants. TiVo don't do well with other IR signals in the area. Go on a "Wild Remote Hunt."

Newer LCD and Plasma TVs with "auto room brightness detection" also can play havoc on remotes, the Tivo remote seems to be have more trouble then a lot of others with that frequency.
