I was poking around the thread archives and found the first TCF thread about Lost, posted after the first hour aired (remember, they split the 2-hour premiere in half).

A few interesting quotes:
I've read that Abrams has said that the monster is NOT a dinosaur or anything like that and that the moster, while remaing a constant threat and mystery, is NOT the main storyline.
It will shift to the interactions between all the people and their own mysteries and secrets.
He's said we might not even see the monster by the end of the season!
Personally, I think that's all great news (if true).
I think the director and writers would do a great job with this if they never show the monster and always leave it up to your imagination.
It's such a long wait for the final season.

I remember being convinced early on that smokey and "the monster" were two different things. Smokey just seemed to zip along minding its own business and then there was the big, loud thing (that people had to crank their heads back to see because it was so tall) that could rip things and people apart.
It's funny, because I love this show so much -- I've been tivoing the repeats on "syfy" and haven't watched a single one of them. I kind of expected that I'd be watching a couple of old episodes a week, but I haven't really wanted to. I'm ready for some new ones, though.
It's pretty funny to read back and see what the impressions were the day it aired. Wonder if anyones opinions changed.

Man the first season of this show was damn near perfection because you had no idea what was going on. You didn't know anything about the characters, the island, the history, the other inhabitants... It was a classic theme (group of strangers stranded on an island) but on crack. I miss those days. I also remember teh producers specifically saying that everying that will happen on the show will be grounded in reality, which they clearly deviated from (lol).
I'm fine with the supernatural elements, but I didn't/don't like the time travel--that took some of the edge of the show for me. I can forgive season five because, like all great shows and in life, some years are simply better than others. I'm hoping the timelines merge early in S6 and we can just go from there, hopefully pretending most of last season never happened, haha.

Yes it was, but still. If there's one thing Lost has done, it's really tied music & sequences together well. What do you think of now when you hear Wonderwall on the radio?

Wonderwall by Oasis? I don't remember that being in this episode? If it's some other version of Wonderwall, I have no idea what song that is, and I'm fairly certain I haven't heard it on the radio since seeing this episode.

The original wasn't in an episode, but it was majorly featured in a very memorable episode, sung & played by one of the characters. Trying to be a bit vague here, have you been watching the show? Heh.

OK, I see what you're referring to. It would not occur to me to think of Lost if I were to hear Wonderwall on the radio, but it's probably been a decade since I heard it anyway. The only thing I remember about that episode is the ring purchasing sequence and the red shoes (still being vague).
But what I thought you were referring to, because you quoted my line about the S2 premiere, was the music playing during the scene that uncdrew was talking about, and I was fairly certain that wasn't Wonderwall.

I wasn't referring to the premiere episode, I was talking about music in the series as a whole.
You're also thinking of the wrong scene, so I'm going to spoiler tag it.
When Desmond runs into Charlie, he's a street musician, singing Wonderwall for tips.

Really cool. Looks pretty accurate to me. I love multiple POV stories so it's cool to see it unfolding like that. I'm always amazed that people have that kind of free time to put something like that together.

It's really got me looking forward to the return of the show in a couple of weeks.
I think I'm really going to miss this show when it's over. In recent memory the only other show I felt this strongly about was BSG and after the disastrous final season of that show I was more than happy to see it go. Here's hoping the Lost final season is NOT like BSG's final season!

Very good. I don't remember what Juliet was going to tell the old lady, or her saying she was going to show her something. Also, I thought the part where Christian was talking to the dog was from an extra rather than an ep. Just 2 weeks to go! :D

Here's a funny spoof on LOST (http://www.theonion.com/content/video/final_season_of_lost_promises_to) fans. Warning: It does make reference to a genuine spoiler from last season.

I was thinking that too, Juliet pulled out the envelope and started to show it to the old lady, told her not to tell anyone about it... but what was it? I don't want to rewatch that whole season just to see what was in the damn envelope! If anything at all. :)
I just glanced onto Youtube at the S3 opener, and that sequence isn't there. So if it was actually in the series, it was in a later episode. I don't want to watch all those episodes just to find this out. I'm lazy.

AHA. The whole burn sequence is the twelfth mobisode (similar to Christian and the dog).

It says on that page that the contents are Ben's MRI results. Apparently it's a scene that was cut from the original episode.
